From The Mailbox

Project Runway is showing up on many best-of-2006 lists. First, this article from the Star-Telegram ranks Project Runway (Tim Gunn anyway) number seven.

This list from theday.com puts Project Runway first. This article states that the third season was as addictive as the first. The O.C. Register ranks Project Runway second. Richmond's Style Weekly calls Project Runway a "Winner in Prime Time." The Orlando Sentinel ranks Project Runway at number four.

Well, Project Runway will always be number one here!

Thanks Deb for these links.

A Note From PR3 Model Katie Champion

Hi BPR,
I hope this message finds you well, and that you had a wonderful holiday :)

A friend of mine, Gloria Almonte, recently won the title of "Miss New York 2007" and will be competing for the title of Miss USA at the upcoming pageant. If you go here, you will see that her dress was the same fabric Kayne used for his outfit when they were in Paris. It goes to show that Kayne knows a thing or two about pageants! Anywho, a little shout out for Gloria.. she's a big PR fan, and was always supportive of me. Now it's my turn to brag about her :)

It was wonderful working with Laura and Bradley! They were both very kind and fun to be with. PR was a good experience overall, and I'm glad that it brought success to all the designers and models. I have remained in great contact with Bradley as well as Malan. Whenever I run into anyone from the show, it's always an exciting reunion! haha. Javi and I go out as often as we can, and I run into Nazri, Clarissa, and Alexandra every so often.

Things are going well these days! I recently signed with Elite Model Management's runway division. They are wonderful, and last Monday I got the chance to work with Nathaniel Hawkins for TRESemme. Amanda was there too! She flew in from LA for the day. We shot for an online video about new TRESemme products. The holidays are always a bit slow, so now I am down in Orlando, FL visiting my family for Christmas.

Love,

Katie Champion

ps. It was very nice to meet Trish at Malan's boutique opening! Thank you for mentioning my appearance in the Chocolate Show! You are so sweet :)
Talk to you soon!

Are You Ready for Top Design?

Your BPR Team is taking on a new show! We are very excited about Top Design and we hope that you are too.

You can expect the same positive and upbeat treatment of Top Design that we have given to Project Runway. Also, we plan to offer some of the same features that we offer on BPR. These include:

1. Tbone's live-posting of each episode.

2. The famous "Party Post" every Wednesday.

3. The always emotional "Reactions" post at the end of each new episode.

4. The "Congratulations" post to the winner on Thursday morning as well as the

5. "BTD Love" post to the departed designer.

6. Of course we wouldn't forget the "Who SHOULD HAVE won?" and "Who SHOULD HAVE been off?" polls. These are always interesting.

7. How about some recappers? Who will take this on? BTD needs a Recapalooza!

8. Hopefully we will have interviews with each designer as he or she leaves.

9. Hopefully we will get some previews of upcoming episodes.

10. One of our favorite features is the "Speculation" post where our readers get to predict what they believe will happen in an upcoming episode.

11. Any news coverage or articles that become available will be linked to in BTD. Once again, we aim to be "All Top Design - All the Time!" If you see any news coverage of Top Design or especially if you personally know any of the designers or personalities from the show, please write to us at Team BTD.

We have been hesitating to commit to this because we don't know much about the show. Will it be good? Will we like it? Blogging is only fun if we like the show. Otherwise - forget it!

Well, fortunately your team has been able to see part of the premiere episode already (no we don't know the results) and we will give you a little glimpse of our impressions. Check in with Blogging Top Design tomorrow for Laura K's take on the first episode.

So, is anyone getting excited about Top Design?

From The Christmas Tree

So, did you have any Project Runway gifts waiting for you under the tree this morning? BPR reader Megan sends along this note:

Hi to all of you,

My sister-in-law is the person who got me hooked on PR. For Christmas, I've made her a version of Michael's coffee filter dress. Plus, I added a nod to Angela.

I cheated -- by using a store bought slip -- but I hand sewed each of the filters to it. Suffice it to say, it took me WAY longer than 2 days! Happy holidays!

Megan

PS Isn't it amazing how often the phrase "make it work" is applicable? It's my new mantra; instead of freaking out (my usual MO), I decide to MIW.

What a beautiful, amazing gift Megan! We hope everyone gets a little Runway love today.

Project Runway Elves

Project Runway designers make excellent elves! Think about it - they spend much of their time in a 'workroom' creating fabulous things with a silver-haired man. They can fashion a dress out of corn husks, leaves or even coffee filters. Sometimes they pack up everything and take to the air to deliver their creations to another country. They even make doll clothes. Click here to see an Andrae elf. Click here to see a Daniel Franco elf. Click here to see our Nick elf.

Did you miss our Tim Gunn elf last week? Click here to see him in action and then create your own Project Runway elf.

ETA: Hello! The dancing elves are hysterical! ...You guys are the best! Thank you for all the love and support you have sent me throughout this year. We couldn't have done it without you!

Happy Holiday!

A Holiday Message From Tim Gunn and Team BPR

December 22, 2006

Dear Laura K, The Scarlett, Tbone, Phaolo, and BPRers everywhere,

It's the last day of the semester at Parsons and I'll admit to the fact that I'm running out of steam. In spite of the frantic madness, the students' work has never looked stronger. I'm thrilled and very proud.

Entertainment Weekly came out today, too. Can you believe that we're one of the "best shows" of 2006? Considering the competition we were up against, I think it's a fabulous miracle. Though I have to add that Entertainment Weekly is consistently kind to and supportive of the show, so it's useful that we're one of their pets. We love you, too, EW!!

The holiday season is a time to reflect and a time to look forward. What a great year we all had, me included. Season two of Project Runway received three Emmy nods, we made the cover(!) of Entertainment Weekly, TIME wrote about the cultural phenomenon of the show, and we broke all of Bravo's ratings records. Wow! And Heidi and Laura Bennett each gave birth to beautiful and healthy baby boys. The success of the seasons one-through-three Project Runway alumni continues to escalate, And for me, I have to say that being named one of People's sexiest men was probably the most surreal occurrence in my life, and it would NEVER have happened without the support of all of the BPRers. You are all too good to me.

Looking forward into the New Year, we have season four of the show ahead! I can't even begin to imagine who the auditions will bring forward, but it will be very exciting to see. On the Emmy front, I have every reason to believe that we'll be nominated, again, and I have just as many reasons to believe that we'll finally win! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday and a Great New Year!!

Affectionately,

Tim XOX

From The Mailbox

Entertainment Weekly has named Project Runway on its "Entertainers of the Year" list for 2006. We love the photo montage and this line from Heidi:

So how did Bravo (which is owned by NBC Universal) reward Heidi Klum, 33, for turning Project Runway into a pop culture phenom this year? ''I got a nice smelly candle,'' says the supermodel host.

ETA: Click here for a brief Access Hollywood video blurb of the photoshoot.

We've purposely avoided the Tara Conner nonsense despite all of your e-mails, however now that Kayne Gillaspie has chimed in with his reaction to the story in today's New York Post, it's fair game for the BeePeR's. Thanks Trish.

Also seen in today's Post is this shocker:

In addition to scheduling snafus, Fashion Week is also in search of a new home now that it has outgrown Bryant Park. Though the February shows will be held in their usual park tents, the Bryant Park Corp. has made no secret of its desire for the catwalks to relocate.

No PR finale in Bryant Park, say it isn't so! Our BPR fashion insider Ted calls it the "End Of An Era".

Jay McCarroll's Arch Card design is now available on eBay.

Jay is also featured in People.com, thanks Brooke,

and in the New York Times. Thanks Val.

Trish's Holiday Dish

BPR's Ace Field Reporter Trish sends us this report from the "Warm Yourself" event at EMc2. Thanks from all of us Trish!

BPR <3 Trish!
Hello all!

So last night was the "Warm Yourself" event at Emmett's store, EMc2! With all of the madness of the holiday season in full swing, it was really my only chance to make it into the city. I would have loved to come to the other events, but anyone who knows the New York City area knows that sitting on the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel (either by bus or car) during "gridlock alert" is not fun!

I decided to coordinate this with all the of the other things I needed to do in the city, such as seeing "the tree" at Rockefeller Center and shopping for Maggie (the little girl that my Mom takes care of - Mom heard I was going into the city and said "pick me up this and..." LOL) at American Girl Place. Bags and bags later, I set off down 5th Avenue to meet my boyfriend Keith at Grand Central Station (he works in Westchester County, NY and since his sister lives near the Mt. Vernon West train station, he also gave up on the gridlock, parked his car at his sister's house and got on the train!) We met up and got on the 6 train to Spring Street (I felt so J. Lo since I was "on the 6"! LOL)

Here is a story about Heidi and Seal and their children in Hello! Thanks Deb.

Tim Gunn was mentioned here in the Baltimore Sun. "That was Project Runway's imperiled style counselor Tim Gunn lunching at Michael's with the former editor of Vogue, Grace Mirabella. Longtime associates at Parsons The New School of Design, they were laughing it up, perhaps planning Tim's future should he and Bravo not come to an understanding about whether he stays or goes at Project Runway. (Tim says, "None of us have contracts!")" Thanks Ann.

The televisionary is a fan of Tim Gunn and Project Runway. Thanks Deb.

Check out this story on Page Six. It looks like another show about fashion is in the works for Fox. Thanks Ted.

ETA: Thanks everyone who sent links to the Kara item in the WSJ. The story is about getting designer looks copied in Asia! I suppose it could be considered flattering that Kara's dress is so iconic that it was chosen as an item to be copied! Anyway - here is a link to the entire article.

Although there is no new information in this article from the Seattle Times, it is a lot of fun to read. Thanks Deb.

Malan at Princeton - A BPR Reader Reports

We have this report from BPR reader Christine on Malan's lecture on style on December 7th at Princeton University:

Malan Breton came to Princeton University to give a multifaceted presentation on "Optimizing Your Personal Style". The room was buzzing with excitement (with dance music, practice runway walks, and whispers of "He's late!" "He's here!!!"), and even though they were mostly in jeans and sweats, the young crowd seemed to have a serious interest in high fashion.

Malan gave a brief autobiography of his background (I still can't picture him as a skate rat or surf dude), and described how wearing a pair of self-embroidered trousers ultimately cemented his career in fashion.

He went on to describe how his collections manifest his love of "Old Hollywood", and presented many photographs that linked the styles of actresses like Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, and Marlene Dietrich to the fashions of performers today. He showed many modern day dresses and then the original style that inspired them.

Will He Stay Or Will He Go?

The speculation surrounding Tim Gunn's future on Project Runway continues to grow. The Entertainment Weekly story is out and contains these gems:

Gunn, who didn't return calls for comment, has skirted questions about his contract and salary.

Listen, Tim is a man of integrity above all else. He's not about to jeapordize contract negotiations, however his silence is telling. Then there's this:

A source close to Runway claims concerned fans are jumping the Gunn. ''We're confident the whole team will be back,'' says the source. ''We'll find a way to work around his schedule.''

How exactly do they plan to do that? It seems clear now that Weinstein/NBCUniversal/Bravo want to push Season 4 into production in early 2007. Do they think they can film the Tim segments strictly at nights and on weekends? Please.

Andy Denhart at Reality Blurred weighs in:

Hopefully, he’s just playing hardball and demanding the cheap-asses at Bravo pay him what he’s worth.

Indeed.

Project Runway at SeenOn Launch Party

Our fab new friends at SeenOn.com hosted a launch party on December 6. Our beloved Nick Verreos was voted 'best hair' while Michael Knight was voted 'most likely to succeed.' Also present was Vincent Libretti who dressed his lovely muse Jia Santos; Jia thankfully appears to be fully recovered from her injuries sustained during Season 3. You can click here to read about this red carpet event and click here to see all the pictures.
