Spring Fashion Trends from Amanda Fields

Project Runway Supermodel, Amanda Fields checks in with BPR offering her suggestions for Spring - thanks Amanda!

Spring is in full swing and I have observed several new fashion trends for the warmer months ahead!

Move in to my new flat: The smoking flat is another little slice of men's wear as women's wear. I love this as I love the blazer from these past couple of years! There is a NEW take on this flat that I am not sure what to name. Perhaps the pointed smoker?

This is something I have learned about through none other than Taylor Jacobson - she deserves the credit for wearing and loving Jenni Kayne D'Orsay flats in an array of colors. Follow her on twitter @taylorjacobsonn It's a more feminine take on the shoe, adding that pointy toe lends itself to being compared to the always glamorous Manolo Blahnik slingback. In fact, Janni Kayne offers it up in a slingback choice as well!

The summer boot! It's here and I actually adore it. Why? Us California girls know that even in the summer, it gets very chilly at night. Flip flops and strappy sandals are fun at the beach but if you are having a night out on the town sometimes you just want a fashion forward (summer) boot! Perhaps even a booty! There is a chic new approach - the sandal bootie.. with an open toe. It works in a light or nude color. I'd stay away from dark (bootiedals?) in most cases!

It seems that designers want us women to show off a new part of our anatomy.. our shoulders!! The other day I noticed a model wearing something that seemed more appropriate for fall but in a blush color would make me very happy this spring! It was a sweater tank top. You heard right! It's a long sleeved sweater with the tops of the outside of the arms cut out. In a lightweight sweater fabric it would be extra sweet with a camel color leather short! Singer22.com has a similar style.

Denimology.com has a great photo of Nicky Hilton wearing this trend!

What got me more obsessed with new shapes in sweaters and knitwear was recently working with the fashion designer Adelle Louise. Her line is simply called adellelouise knitwear. She is also crafting beautiful lightweight scarves for spring. I am a big fan of this cross-season dressing!

I was also in a little clip on E!'s Fashion Police with Joan Rivers! It was so much fun to meet her and have a laugh. She is a fashion icon and also a comedy icon! It was a pleasure to talk to her!

Wishing you a fashionable day!

Amanda

Tim Gunn Travels to Austin TX This Saturday

Tim will be in Austin on Saturday and Statesman.com posted a new interview with the Project Runway Star.

A highlight: Because Gunn has made a living off dispensing fashion advice, we were curious about the best style advice he has ever received. "Know who you are and dress accordingly," Gunn says. "The clothes we wear send a message about those who perceive us, and that's pretty important stuff." He also stresses the importance of having a style mentor — someone whose style you'd love to emulate.

Click here for the full interview. Austin fans don't miss Tim at 1 p.m. on Saturday Lucky Brand Jeans Runway Show at Barton Creek Square Mall, Macy's court, 2901 S. Capital of Texas Highway (Loop 360). Seating is limited.

Tim Gunn Heads to Austin April 21

Anticipating Tim's visit to Austin on April 21st, The Austin Chronicle posted an interview here.

A highlight:

AC: One of the underpinnings of your career seems to be education as a mode of empowerment. How do you see the event you'll be participating in here as part and parcel of that larger motivation?

TG: I'm so glad you asked, because Leah Caruso-Salak [Liz Claiborne's director of marketing and special events] and I co-host the event, and what we say right before we go out is: "Let's just hope that people come away from this feeling a little smarter, a little wiser, because we've given them some information that they can apply to themselves. Or share with someone else."
Everything that I do, I try to make it about giving people information. Not a day goes by when I'm not on a quest for more information. I see myself as a constant, perpetual student. It makes the world an exciting and adventurous place. It's quite thrilling – I love the unknown.

Austin Scarlett Designs Costumes for Ballet

Project Runway All Star finalist, Austin Scarlett, designed the costumes for "Square None," a contemporary ballet premiering tonight in St. Louis and STLToday posted a Q&A with the designer.

A highlight:

How did you pare down your style of big, breathtaking glamour?

When it comes to ballet, it's really all about making the dancers look beautiful and really highlighting the natural physical beauty of their bodies and their movement. I really like helping to communicate a story with costume.

What will we see on stage?

The colors are pale gray. For the women, there's a kind of corsety-type top, and the bottom is sort of a reinterpretation of the tutu.

Daniel Vosovic Update

Style Journalist, Lauren David Peden, sends along a new profile of Project Runway Season 2 designer, Daniel Vosovic.

A highlight:

Daniel himself gives off an open, easygoing, infectiously friendly energy – not to say he isn’t deadly serious when it comes to his work. Take fall 2012, which was inspired by his teen years in mid-’90s Grand Rapids. “I found all these old photos in the attic while visiting my parents last year, and that just sort of kickstarted everything.”

Mondo Makes His Move

Well, that didn't take very long.

Mondo Guerra has dominated the collective
consciousness of Project Runway fans for nearly two years and now it appears he is using his reality show fame not just to move forward in the world of fashion design, but to make another reality show. This just in:

New York -- As part of an aggressive expansion to grow its original programming slate, Lifetime today announces "The Mondo Show," an all-new reality series featuring Mondo Guerra, recently crowned as the best designer in Project Runway history. "The Mondo Show" follows the dreams, struggles and drama as the talented designer tries to find his way in the world of fashion.

In a way we are not surprised since Mondo has been hinting about this possibility in some of his recent interviews. Here's what we'll get:

Produced by Love Mondo Trasho and Good Bye Productions, "The Mondo Show" will detail his experience as guest editor for Marie Claire magazine as well as share some of his madcap adventures navigating around his new home in Manhattan.

Madcap adventures? Who comes up with this stuff? Obviously Lifetime has known since last fall that he was the PRAS winner, so they have had time to line up quite the impressive list of guest stars. Check this out:

Star-studded guests appearing on "The Mondo Show" include Joanna Coles, Tim Gunn, Jessica Simpson, Michael Costello, Nina Garcia, Nicki Minaj, Georgina Chapman, Abby Lee Miller and Austin Scarlett. The series premiere will feature Mondo designing costumes for the "Dance Moms" and is scheduled to air in the early summer.

Congratulations, Mondo. This is definitely a show we will not miss!
