Project Runway Season 2 Designer, Daniel Vosovic, Enters CFDA Incubator
Photo: NYMag.com
Daniel Vosovic talks about Project Runway and his new opportunity to join the CFDA Incubator program.
A highlight:
Can you walk us through what happened between Project Runway and now?
I was on the show four days after college, so it was my first real job ... When it came time that the show was done, that the dust had settled, I knew that I had to make a decision and try to use the exposure to jump into something — even though I knew I wasn't ready — and maybe just try and spin it into something positive. But I felt like that had a very short shelf life, so I made a very conscious decision to take a step back and say, You still have to learn about this, you still have to really develop this part of design and part of your business. So that's what I started to do. I went back into the grind, which was very weird to go into interviews when people had seen me on the TV show, but I jumped from big companies to small companies, some creative director positions, some very lowly assistant positions, and I did that for four and a half years. And all behind the scenes, I started to build up my infrastructure. So before I even had my company, before it officially launched, I had my legal team and a financial team and a proper business plan.

A New Interview With Heidi Klum and Other Reality TV Hosts
Photo: Jay L. Clendenin, Los Angeles Times
A highlight:
Kaufman: ...Heidi, have you cried before on "Project Runway"?
Klum: I don't really get teary-eyed.
Kaufman: But you fight for certain contestants.
Klum: I do fight for them, yeah. No, but talking about people just being on the show, because they are fun or whatever, I mean that for me comes with the territory. I think that most people who are in the fashion industry, if it's hair, makeup, style, whatnot, I think they are all a little bit different and a little bit more out there and flamboyant and fun. And they really feel like they're it, you know? So, in terms of finding someone that is fun, no. We always have to look for someone who's talented, because [otherwise] they will be out immediately; they have to do a real serious outfit in a day.

Project Runway In Times Square
Season 10 of Project Runway kicked off in grand style last night as the Episode 1 runway filming was held smack in the middle of Times Square. BPR field reporter Trish O'Shea was there and has plenty of inside scoop:
I just got home from the Project Runway Season 10 premiere show, which was held live right in Times Square, NYC. It was a very interesting night, in many ways! First of all, I arrived in the city around 4:45 p.m. I commuted in from New Jersey and met my boyfriend (who works in Times Square) for dinner. I wondered where the runway show would be, and there it was - right in the "North Triangle" section. At this time, people were ALREADY lining up and being seated in bleacher seating.

New York, NY (June 13, 2012) – It’s time to cut – or be cut! The Emmy® Award nominated series, Project Runway, celebrates its 10th Anniversary milestone with 16 new designers, beginning Thursday, July 19, at 9pm ET/PT on Lifetime. But before viewers tune in to watch them on the air, fans will have the rare opportunity to see them in person for a LIVE runway show in New York’s Times Square on Friday, June 15, at 8pm ET.
Not only will this season’s designers have to prove they have the creativity, skills and passion to dazzle Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, they’ll also have to show off their garments to the critical eyes of a live audience in one of New York’s most visited and highly visible sites for their first challenge of the new season.
Filmed on location in the Big Apple, each 90-minute episode of the 10th season will showcase the talent of the designers on the runway, and the drama that takes place behind-the-seams as the designers attempt to make the cut to show at New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center.
With some new twists for the designers along the way, who will make the cut? As part of the winner’s prize package, this season’s victorious designer will receive $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris to start his/her own line, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a 2013 Lexus GS 350, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel to create his/her own vision and run his/her business and the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection at Lord & Taylor.

A highlight:
A fashion blogger in the audience had the opportunity to ask Gunn about his opinion on the effects of bloggers and online media on the industry. His positive response was encouraging, and he congratulated the woman after discovering that she was indeed a style blogger. “The blogging community has a huge, huge, huge impact,” Gunn says. “I’m wow’ed by the impact of the whole genre, the whole medium and what it has done. And also how it’s made fashion so hugely readily accessible, which I think is a great thing.”
