Althea Harper, Fall 2013

Project Runway Season 6 Finalist and All-Star Designer, Althea Harper, presented her Fall 2013 Collection in February.

Althea's collection was inspired by space and celestial objects. The three prints in the collection are developed by Althea and printed using organic dyes. The collection is feminine in keeping with Althea's strengths designing for many different types of women in many different locales.

The collection can be very downtown chic as well as fit in perfectly at a beach resort. There are body conscious figure flattering pieces as well as dresses that flow and fit everyone in a wide range of sizes. The palette of colors is a subdued vibrant with capsules of deep purple, black and the vibrant prints.

BPR Interview with Althea Harper

Project Runway All-Star designer, Althea Harper talks about her experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR:  Some of the designers really struggled, and your design seemed to be just what you wanted.  If you could go back, would you change anything?

AH:  No.  Not really.  The flaps that hung down at the sides were actually very different when we left the workroom.  During transport to the runway, the flaps somehow came undone.  That was not how they were supposed to be.  I was a little disappointed because there were other occasions when designers were allowed to repair garments, but I approached the producers and asked if I could and I was turned down.

I did not feel that was fair.  But ultimately at the end of the day, I could see the writing on the wall.  The judges had certain favorites.  Even if I had survived this challenge, I might have lasted only another week or two.

I did not feel that way during season 6.  I didn't feel that I had to bring a certain "character" or "drama" to the set, but for All-Stars it was evident that the producers and judges were looking for characters.

I am not a character.  I am a designer!

I am not going to act a certain way just to bring more drama to the screen.

Althea Harper Spring 2012

Blogging Project Runway Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara attended Althea's show last night and sends us this report - thanks Jen!

Last night at the Stone Rose Lounge in New York City, season 6 designer, Althea Harper unveiled her 2012 Spring Collection. Althea shows us the way with 20 looks, complete with prints, pleats, knits, and beautiful drapery in a classy, fun sophisticated way. "I was inspired by a book called The Raising, the supernatural, haunting, silhouettes; anything that raises questions for me, I am looking into more exploration." Says Althea.

Most models were rocking fishtail braids, including Althea! according to her it is "easy cool hair that looks great going out at night." The venue, most appropriately promoted the idea that Stone Rose could be where these girls would wear these designs.

As for Althea - glowing in a long sleeved, printed chiffon draped maxi, "influenced by old photos with smudges," a version of a look from the line. (Look #9) Although Althea says her favorite look from the collection is "the short black mini with the creme colored sleeves."

News from Althea Harper

The designs of Project Runway’s Althea Harper continue to make their mark with a-listers, including the Kardashian sisters.

In the promo image for Season 5 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim is wearing a one shoulder black Carra Dress from Harper's 2010 Fall collection. This dress retails at $325 on www.altheaharper.com. The sleek lines and mesh cutouts of the dress were inspired by both the Futurism movement that originated in Italy during the early 20th century and the female form.

Harper, a New York based fashion designer who combines both tailoring and drape into unique silhouettes aimed to enhance every woman's form, continues to impact the fashion world, by crafting brilliant pieces recognized by celebrities, press and public alike.

This is not the first time Harper and the Kardashians have linked up. During a recent Mercedes-Benz Polo Tournament in the Hamptons, Harper and Kourtney discussed their favorite smart phone fashions with SWAGG.com. Harper has also dressed Kourtney Kardashian.

Mila Hermanovsky has designed a new line of gloves called "Revolver."

Tim Gunn approves of Wonder Woman's new look: “I believe in the semiotics of fashion and this new look says, ‘I’m confident, I’m powerful, I’m sexy, and don’t mess with me.’ Furthermore, she looks like a citizen of the real world rather than a creature from another land.”
