Fabio Costa at The American Folk Art Museum
Fabio Costa's design is on exhibit at the American Folk Art Museum in New York.
Karalyn Factor sends us this report. Thank you Karalyn!
Folk Couture runs now til April 23rd.
Fabio Costa's design |
Fabio Costa, Season 10 contestant and designer for Not
Equal, will have some of his work on display at the American Folk Art Museum in
New York for their exhibit Folk Couture.
Folk Couture
brings together designers and asks them to create a garment inspired by the
folk art in the museum collection.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Inspiration |
Fabio created a beautiful white capelet, pants, and
overskirt with a matching wide brim hat. His chosen inspiration was The Sacred Heart of Jesus and The Tree of Life white work quilt. The
large woodwork Sacred Heart of Jesus
is displayed behind the garment.
Tree of Life Quilt Inspiration |
The pattern on The
Tree of Life quilt is reflected in the quilting on the skirt and capelet.
Fabio understands the motif as the center of life, and the sacred heart as the
ultimate symbol of the Immaculate Conception, which is an abundant symbol in
his native Brazil.
Folk Couture runs now til April 23rd.

Malan Breton - Fall 2014
Malan Breton presented his Fall 2014 Collection on Feb 11th and BPR Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara, sends us this report - thanks Jen!
Today Malan Breton traded his white runway for a black box theatre and his Fall 2014 fashion show was among the best.
Malan Breton shows are always extremely well run and executed with the most professional staff.
The atmosphere was dark with blue spotlights streaming from above in every direction, the one white spotlight on the incredible pianist Erik James who really put us in the mood.
The place filled with energy as each look passed through the U-shaped space with thirty plus looks. (Malan always delivers.)

Leanne Marshall - Fall 2014
Project Runway Season 5 Champion, Leanne Marshall, presented her Fall 2014 Collection on Sunday, February 9th and BPR Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara sends us this report. Thanks Jen!
Leanne Marshall showed Sunday at the Helen Mills event space in Manhattan. If you ask me she has graduated beyond this small space that barely fit her MANY supporters.
It was a very melodic show with hues of baby pink and grey but with all of the classic "Marshall touches" ...yes petals were present! There was wedding wear along with some fun and whimsical outfits.
We did see some of our favorite people...Suede! (an avid Leanne supporter) He told me he is in over four thousand stores now! The jacket he is wearing is one of his designs.
It was a wonderful show - Thank you Leanne!

Trina Turk and Zoey Deutch Guest Judge on "Under the Gunn" This Week
Vampires exude romance, allure, and a sometimes shocking rawness. It is no surprise that vampires and the upcoming movie “Vampire Academy” are the subject of inspiration for this season’s first unconventional materials challenge.
With the challenge presented at night by “Vampire Academy” actress Sarah Hyland, the designers must try and find materials in the eerie fog and darkness. Blood capsules, bat wings, vampire fangs, and chains (literally!) – these are some of the materials the designers have to work with...talk about unconventional! Joining the panel this week are fashion designer, Trina Turk, and “Vampire Academy” actress, Zoey Deutch.
Tune in this Thursday at 9pm EST on Lifetime.

Twenty-One Questions for Tim Gunn

A favorite:
The most memorable Project Runway contestant was…
I have to say Austin Scarlett from season one because I thought he was such a poser and couldn't possibly have any substance, but then I worked with him and realized he was extraordinary.

"Also, this gown was going to have a keyhole front opening AND he wanted to add a BIG BOW at the back--right on her bootie, as well as give her a TURBAN and long gloves. Not kidding. I suggested that it might be "too mucheey" and to keep it simple. He did and it looked gorgeous."
