BPR Interview with Samantha Black

Project Runway season 11 designer, Samantha Black, talks about her experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: If you could go back, is there anything that you would change about your design?

SB: Yes, I would not go the junior route. It was not what the challenge was asking for. In my mind I just wanted to stand out and do something different. If I could go back, I would try to give them exactly what they wanted.

BPR: Did you agree with the judges on the winning design?

SB: I thought it was really cute!

BPR: Did your teammates help or hurt you in any way in this challenge?

SB: Ummmm... I won't say that they hurt me, but I wish they were a little more honest. I think that I was determined and they didn't want to discourage me. When I saw how Stanley helped Patricia to refine her design and send her in a better direction I wish someone could have done that for me.

BPR Interview with Lord & Taylor Challenge Winner, Michelle Lesniak Franklin

Jennifer Mara covered this Lord & Taylor event for BPR and sends us this report - thanks Jen!

BPR Hearts Michelle!

This morning Michelle Lesniak Franklin celebrated her Lord and Taylor Challenge win with a private pre-store opening party. Modeling her own look along with one of her signature raincoats, Michelle was rocking her dress regardless of the 30 degree weather! "Just throw on tights and boots." she says.

Official congratulations to Michelle even though she hasn't had the time to watch the episode for herself. This is the first time someone else is producing her work. Usually, she produces her own work. "So you know, fifty of something or thirty of something but never this many, this is out of my wildest dreams...we are sold out online already!"

When the episode started I couldn't help but wonder if Michelle could've chosen her partner who would she pick, and to my surprise she said "I would've picked Amanda, but she's GONE!" which I thought was a great answer!

And in her own words, "I will try and watch it on Saturday. I am waiting to see this fight. One of my girlfriends even texted me about it."

Chatting with Michelle, it felt safe to ask about her circle tattoos, even though they were fully covered, (was that rude?) her answer: "I get this all the time. Circle of life, nature and balance."

About the difference between the original and the production design: "Michelle tell me if the design has changed much from your original design." Her response; "I don't think it has. I will have to look back at the episode and really study. I think they hit it out of the park which is great because you never expect that to happen." Personally I thought the look was identical to the episode showing.

I had to try on the winning garment... LOVE IT!!! This is a dress for any girl, it's very striking. I couldn't resist. $259.00 and WORTH IT!

Looking good!

BPR Interview with Amanda Valentine

Project Runway Season 11 designer, Amanda Valentine, talks about her experience on the show.
"Keep my eyes on the seam...Keep my eyes on the seam..."

A highlight:

BPR:  Tell us about the inspiration for your collection.

AV:  I always have to come up with a funny name for my collection.  Last year I did "French Medieval  Fly Girl."  This collection I call "Machu Picchu Punk."  Those are two of my biggest inspirations.  I am always inspired by some international culture..usually an ancient culture...usually a place I have never visited.  So I have this "wide-eyed naive midwestern girl kind of looking out into the world" attitude.  I am also inspired by street style.  I love the attitude of punkers or hippies.   I love anything that is a little bit against the grain.

BPR:  Which is your favorite piece in the collection?

AV:  I love the all-black fringe piece toward the end of the collection.   Actually Mat helped my style my looks... He gave me some great feedback.   I am obsessed with the fringed skirt...  It was really fun to make - just a blast.  I should have shown it off a little more - it is high-waisted.  I just love it.
