A highlight:

What advice would you give to someone who wants to work in fashion?

You must LOVE to work; working in most creative fields consists of 90% behind-the-scenes work and 10% fun and glamour. Also, educate yourself in all facets of the fashion industry, not just the “marquee” positions like head designer and stylist (made main-stream famous in the past five years) as there are literally hundreds of people that go into getting fashion made. We’d be nowhere without textile designers, knitwear designers, trim specialists, photographers, model agents, casting agents, makeup artists, production managers, patternmakers, seamstresses, cutters, editors, web developers and on, and on, and on.

BPR Interview with Gordana Gehlhausen

After covering the show for so many seasons Team BPR has met each and every one of the All-Star designers and they feel like friends.

For me, this is especially true with Gordana. After all, my family spent Thanksgiving with Gordana's family in 2009!

Gordana and O.R. put the finishing touches on their Thanksgiving meal!

So, talking to Gordana felt more like catching up with an old friend rather than an exit interview.

Highlights: Gordana is opening a new Goga Boutique in Santa Monica this spring and will be showing her latest collection along with many other "Stars of Project Runway" at Fashion Week El Paseo in March.

BPR Interview with Project Runway All-Star Designer, Elisa Jimenez

Tbone and Elisa Jimenez Sept. 2011

Elisa, I was thrilled to learn that you were in the cast of the All Stars because I felt like we really didn’t get to know you in season four. I am broken-hearted over your elimination.

Good morning BPR and thank u! I still do not feel that I have been able to truly reveal the array of my skills, and yet I hope that my work and my life's work history show an inkling of my capabilities. I can say that all my press and opportunities have come thru the world alone...that is definitely something to be proud and grateful for.

Tell us about your dollar store design. What are the shorts made from?

My shorts were made of a paper gift bag and clear duct tape...I was being a bit "cheeky", (no pun intended!), about the rose and the gift bag. The character Fancy has just returned to a Celestial Garden of unconditional Love, Beauty, and FullFillmeant. I am making the shorts bodysuit and wrap for this Spring to purchase.
And by the way, Fancy is a character my mother invented in a painting when I was very little. She wore a long maxi 70's dress and had this huge wings, written on the painted was "Fancy didn't how or when, only that she had flown once or twice". I remember being about four and resonating that this woman had flown, remembered slightly that she had, but didn't realize she could again at any moment! Fancy evolved into my iconography as a symbolic character illustrating the capacity for us to all evolve, if we can just remember we have everything we need to evolve, as individuals and a conscious species!

What message did you write on the wings?

The writing on the two winged sleeves was the part of the Fancy story where by She has returned to The Garden and is being welcomed lovingly back by the all the Flowers. I will be doing the next installment of this petite rock opera fashion performance for the up-coming New York Fashion Week.

You looked gorgeous on the runway. Did you make the pink dress?

Why thank you so much for the compliment! I actually made everything you see me wearing on my brief yet delicious stint on Project Runway All Stars. Yes, I did indeed make that "one seam" dress and hand sewed it with my signature monofilament after my morning yoga and shower before we departed. As my dear friend and sometime collaborator Gerald De Cock always says about my client coined "spontaneous couture: "Elisa is great, fast, and not cheap!" Thank you again, I felt good and hot fuchsia is one of my fave colors, ever.

Amanda's Take - Project Runway All Stars, Episode 1

Amanda Fields walking for Michael Costello during Palm Springs Fashion Week Fall 2011

Project Runway Season 3 model Amanda Fields enjoys the unique position of having worked with many of these All-Star designers. She has graciously agreed to provide us with her perspective on the models of the All Star season. Thank you Amanda!

Thank goodness for [just] one hour of PR All stars! Didn't it feel like you saw everything you needed to see, heard everything you needed to hear? It kept me interested, laughing and genuinely entertained. And I'm not just talking about Austin Scarlett!

This is a little bit of a conundrum, because of course I miss the regulars. How can they even call it Project Runway without Tim Gunn, Heidi, Nina and Michael? Not that they aren't watching (they probably are!!) and judging. I would love to hear what they're saying about this ensemble... maybe an eye roll and a German curse word. Just maybe a frozen fruit margarita or two.

The host and judges, however, did make for a fun mix! I have always loved Angela Lindvall and have admired her as a model and as a person throughout her career. Like Heidi, she is a mom and I will never forget running into her in the west village in New York City with one of her darling boys! She was so kind to talk to a stranger who was just starting out in modeling and was (and still is) a fan!

Reactions to the Premiere of Project Runway All Stars

Well BPRs, what did you think?

I think I like it!

Of course it is wonderful to see the designers. They feel like friends because in most cases they are. After covering this show for so long we have met each and every one of these all-star designers. We have shared meals with them and even visited their homes!

The flip side is that it will be heartbreaking to see each designer leave.

Of course we miss Tim and the regular judges, but honestly, I like Angela Lindvall! She is just adorable and natural in her role. What do you think?

I thought Joanna Coles was quite unkind and insensitive to Elisa.

"You're not going to spit on me, are you?"

It was as if she hadn't actually watched Elisa's season and had only heard something about Elisa "spitting," which is of course not at all what she does. Of course Elisa's response was very sweet and positive and not at all defensive. I am very sorry to see Elisa go. I wish we could have seen more of her.

I'm sure that Joanna will grow on me as the season goes on. I just don't like meanness. At all. How is this considered "mentoring?"

The judges were fine. Ultimately they did get things "right." I think we could all agree with their "top three" and "bottom three" choices.

Did you notice that there were only 11 looks in the first "fashion show?" We did not see Kara's or Sweet P's design. There could be a reason for this, but I can't think of anything valid. Later on, in the side by side comparison, we do see Kara's design for a millisecond and a small part of Sweet P's. Weird.

Also, all of the things we were directed to be concerned about (Oh no. Two designers chose MOPHEADS! Oh no, Austin burned his dress!) turned out to be nothing. I would have liked to have seen more of the actual construction.

Suddenly Rami's dress walked the runway and I was like, "Where did THAT come from?" Did we even see Rami working on his dress? Come on - at least let us see how the winning designer created the winning dress!

The models were all completely lovely and yet we did not see or hear their names. I feel like if we are going to accept that the hair, make-up and styling are important to the total look, then we should get to know the models. It would help. Just my opinion of course.

The best change is the return to the 60-minute format. Even with 13 designers I felt like the pace was just right.

Anyway, these are my reactions, how about you? What did you think? Will you tune in next week?
