Leanne Marshall F/W 2016

Project Runway Season 5 champion, Leanne Marshall,  presented her newest collection on February 13.  BPR correspondent Kathy Patterson was there and sends us this report.  Thanks Kathy!

Season 5 winner Leanne Marshall presented her Fall 2016 collection to a packed house at Skylight Clarkson Square--one of this season's three official Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week venues. (She also had a separate show at the Affinia Hotel the very next day, which makes Leanne a very busy designer!)

The collection included 43 dresses and one crop top + pants, in shades of black, brown, "autumn gold," and silver. Everything was made from various types of silk fabric--including chiffon, organza, charmeuse, and silk wool--which gave each piece, including the more architectural ones, great flow. Despite the dark and intense colors, the gossamer fabrics gave the pieces a lightness; some of the more diaphanous looks had the effect of very expensive and glamorous peignoir.

One of the less-sheer looks in the collection, a bronze and black burn-out gown with plunging V-neck, was my favorite. A sexy (and very sheer) silver sleeveless beaded gown was also a stunner.

The styling did not take away from the ethereal drama of Leanne's work. Hair was mostly long and straight in low ponies and makeup was dark and dramatic, lending both simplicity and formality. But Leanne's use of strong colors and movement made sure that all eyes were on the fashion.
