More From Tim Gunn in Nashville

Photo: Out & About Nashville

This is the first time I have read an article where Tim is representing "Fifth & Pacific" brands rather than Liz Claiborne Inc. (The Liz brand has been sold to JCPenney and the new identity of the company representing the remaining brands is "Fifth and Pacific.")

Here is a highlight:

“I have a chin test,” he explained when it came to choosing the right color. “Put the clothing up to your chin, and if the color makes your skin glow, it’s a good color for you. If the color washes you out, you should avoid it!”

He was still apt to point out some fashion faux pas, even on the models as they walked, even asking one of the male models to tuck in his shirt because men’s shirts are meant to be tucked in. “It would just look better,” Gunn said.

“It’s important that Fashion Week takes place in cities across the country, not just in New York City,” he said after the show. “Nashville has developed its own version of Fashion Week supporting local talent, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”

Mondo Celebrates in Denver

Photo: Hyoung Chang, The Denver Post

Mondo has been hosting Project Runway All Stars viewing parties every Thursday night in his hometown.

For the finale, a crowd of about 400 joined Mondo and celebrated his win.

An estimated 400 people were on hand for Thursday's event. Guys in top hats and girls in corsets and platform boots worked the floor, where there was a dunk tank, carnival games to be played, balloon arches and a giant blow-up clown as decorations.

Admission was a just $10, or $50 for VIP seating, and a portion of the procceeds will be donated to Denver Colorado AIDS Project. During the evening, Mondo presented a check to DCAP for $20,000, the amount raised at viewing parties held throughout the "Project Runway All Stars" season.

Also, click here for a new interview with Mondo from WWD.com.

a highlight:

What will you do next?
I plan to stay in Denver as long as I can and do my own collection. I want it to be all about me just like [John] Galliano is all about Galliano. I was compared to him in season eight. Don't you remember? Michael Kors said so. I know it's a reality show but I feel I have the chops to do it.

Have you been approached by companies? Are you even allowed to speak with them before the winner is announced? Will Lifetime get a percentage of your sales?
Of course I have but not until just now. I would love to do juniors. That's a huge market. I don't need my clothes to be $300. I want them to be accessible.

Amanda Fields Reports From Fashion Week El Paseo

Amanda Fields models a gown by Michael Costello

Hi BPR!

I had a fabulous time doing so many fun shows for Fashion Week El Paseo 2012 in Palm Springs! I was also very honored and happy to be the face of this year's Fashion Week - you can see me in the banner ad on www.fashionweekelpaseo.com on the top of the page wearing a royal blue gown by Olivier Tolentino during last year's shows. This image was also a billboard and the front of all the programs for fashion week!

Amanda's image was featured on the EPFW billboards and in the header on the website!

During the Project Runway Fashion Show I wore a total of 7 looks - I love and respect all of the Project Runway designers and was so happy and honored to wear a look in each collection! (2 in Mila's!)

It was a great chance for me to kind of show my chameleon abilities all in one night!

Wait, why is there still plastic on the runway?

Mondo Guerra shares his All-Star experience.

A highlight:

BPR: What kind of designs can we expect to find in your Neiman Marcus boutiques?

MG: Well it is going to be very true and honest to my aesthetic that the viewers of Project Runway have grown to know. Of course there will be lots of prints and color…I mean it is going to be very wearable, let's say that - very edgy and wearable.

BPR: Will you be involved in the casting of season 10?

MG: Yes I will.

Fashion Star Party: Episode 2

Anyone Watching Fashion Star?

NBC's long touted Fashion Star kicked off last week and let's just say that the production was....interesting. This is no Project Runway. The flashing lights, loud pop music, smoke and an American Idol-like set are just the start. With the tag line of "watch it today, wear it tomorrow", this program focuses more on wearable fashion with an an eye towards immediate retail.

Host Elle Macpherson is teamed up with celebrity mentors Jessica Simpson, John Varavatos and Nicole Richie. But the real decision makers are the the three buyers from Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's and H&M. We're giving this show a chance and will be hosting a live party for tonight's episode. If you plan on checking it out, come join us! It's kind of frenetic, but definitely a new spin on a much overdone genre. The show starts at 10:00 p.m. and we will open the party room around 9:45 p.m.

More From Tim Gunn's Visit to Boston

BPR Field Reporter, Tina G sends us more from Tim's visit to Boston. Thanks Tina!

Fans who met Tim in Boston also received this fabulous tote bag!

Another question was why didn't Tim mentor the designers on Project Runway All-Stars. He answered that it was filmed the same time Season 9 was. Tim said that each season he feels as if he's attending to an emergency room patient and he couldn't possibly attend to two emergency room patients! Not to mention how much time Michael and Nina would have to invest as well.

Tim gave a mini styling lesson using one of the models for illustration. She was wearing a blousy peasant top with short shorts. Tim explained that you if you have short shorts you shouldn't wear a plunging neckline. Conversely, if you are wearing a blousy top you should not also wear a baggy bottom.

Tim also mentioned that he has a book on fashion history coming out in the fall.

BPR Field Report from Christian Siriano's Wedding Showcase at Nordstrom

BPR Field Reporter, Ali G, attended the Christian Siriano Wedding Showcase at Nordstrom on Saturday and sends us this report. Thank you Ali!

Hi, BPR!

This is Ali G., reporting from the Christian Siriano Wedding Showcase. It was held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Nordstrom from Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, NY. Christian presented about 10 wedding dresses to be sold at this store. These dresses were soft and romantic. They seemed like what the 2012 bride who always dreamed of a fairy tale wedding would wear on her big day. Although they are voluminous and intricate, their fabrics are light and airy, making them comfortable for any bride.

My favorite dress was the last dress shown. It was colored light gray which was a refreshing change. Christian described it as for the bride who wanted something a bit different, but not too different. The setting at this event was very intimate, allowing Christian, the models, the staff, and the guests to interact freely. I really enjoyed meeting Christian. He was extremely friendly. I mentioned my wish for him to launch a line for men. He smiled in response.

The models walked around. I was able to see the dresses up close and even touch them. The staff was really accommodating, kindly answering every question. There were several waiters, serving caviar, smoked salmon, and champagne. Overall, it was an outstanding event. Big thank you to Christian for being not only super talented, but also super gracious, big thank you to Nordstrom for organizing this event very professionally, and, of course, big thank you to BPR for posting it online beforehand which brought it to my attention, and, therefore, allowed me to attend. It was a day to remember!

Sincerely,
Ali G.

BPR Field Report from Tim Gunn's Visit to Boston

BPR Field Reporter Tina G attended Tim Gunn's Fashion Show today and sends us this report. Thanks Tina!

Today I drove a few miles from my home to Burlington Mall in Burlington, Massachusetts to meet Tim Gunn! I’ve met Tim on two other occasions: at the Kate Spade store in Boston in 2010 and at the Lucky Brand Jeans store in SoHo during Fashion’s Night Out, 2011. (I was also in the audience at Martha Stewart Show when he was a guest in 2007.) I couldn’t pass up another chance to meet Tim, especially when I didn’t have to travel so far!

When I got in line, Tim had not yet arrived. We were told he had quite an ordeal getting to the mall. We weren’t told why, but apparently he was on a plane for a couple of hours and then traveled four hours by car. Maybe he drove from NYC? Eventually, he did make it with his entourage, who consisted of a group of both male and female models dressed from head to toe in Lucky Brand Jeans outfits. One of the models was one who travels with him and the others were local. I spoke with her and asked her if she was Adair (who I saw at Kate Spade). She said Adair was her travel buddy but wasn't able to make this trip.

Prior to Tim’s arrival, the audience was asked for questions for Tim. One person asked who were Tim’s favorite Project Runway designers. He said it would be easier to state whom he didn’t like! There was quite a din, so I missed who he didn’t like in Season 1, so you’ll have to take your best guess: Mario, Vanessa or Wendy, perhaps?

In Season 2, his least favorite was Zulema (also known as Shatenge). She apparently was pulling some shenanigans off-camera. When Tim asked the other designers why they didn’t complain, Santino said in his deepest voice, “We were afraiiiiiiid!” Can you guess who was Tim’s least favorite designer in Season 3? No, Tim did not name Keith Michael, who was asked to leave early, but named none other than Vincent Libretti! Vincent’s designs did leave a bit to be desired, but he did make it long enough to go to Paris and did provide comedy relief.

Seasons 4 and 5 were Victorya Hong and Kenley Collins, respectively. Victorya had a really hard time adjusting to the rigorous schedule. When Tim and the producers asked her why, she thought the lack of sleep and food was just for the cameras! He couldn’t really name anyone in Season 6 (the dreaded LA season). Tim didn’t get a chance to name anyone in Season 7, as he was asked to move things along, but he did say his least favorite of Season 8 was the “both the villain and the winner” – Gretchen. When Tim asked how many in the crowd wanted Mondo to win, the cheers were louder than when Tim himself took the stage!

Tonight On BPR

It's Part 1 of the Project Runway All Stars finale tonight and that photo up there is a sneak peek from Mondo's collection. (You can see looks from Michael and Austin here at the PRAS Blog) For Mondo Guerra, it's a chance to right a terrible judging wrong from Season 8. For Michael Costello, it's a familiar position to create an upset win. For Austin Scarlett, it's a real chance at presenting a fully funded finale collection for Project Runway. Who do you like?

Join Tbone and suzq tonight for our weekly live PRAS chat party as we watch Part 1 of the finale together. We'll see a return of all the PRAS designers and probably a twist or two. Doors open at 8:45 p.m. See you tonight on BPR!

Project Runway All Stars Finale Part 1 Preview Video

Notes on the All-Star Season:

Mondo has won four challenges
Michael and Austin have each won two challenges.

(The remaining two challenges were won by Jerrell and Rami.)

The women did not win even one challenge.

This is the first time in Project Runway history we have had all men in the finale.

Tune in Thursday night for Part 1 of the finale to see Austin, Michael and Mondo create their "All-Star" collections.

Project Runway All Star Sample Sale Tomorrow in NYC

Project Runway All Stars designers Jerell Scott, Kara Janx, Michael Costello, Rami Kashou, and Mondo Guerra are hosting a joint sample sale, offering discounts of up to 80 percent off.

The event is held at 242 W. 36th St. in the garment district between Seventh and Eighth Ave, eighth floor; 11–6.

The designers will be there to greet customers.

We'd love photos!

From Racked NY: At Nanette Lepore's Project Runway All Stars viewing party Thursday, Mondo Guerra informed us that he's decided not to participate in the All Stars sample sale at Kara Janx's studio on Wednesday. He says he doesn't have enough overstock left to sell. On the bright side, he may stop by the sale and put in an appearance anyway, just to show his support. (And we wouldn't be surprised to see other Project Runway-ites popping up, as well).

Participating designers still include Jerrell Scott, Kara Janx, Michael Costello, Rami Kashou, and Mila Hermanovski. Discounts go up to 80% off, with prices starting at $25.

If you're still craving something Mondo, stop by Nanette Lepore's Broome Street shop. The boutique might still have a few copies of his winning garment from this week's Project Runway All Stars episode.

The All Stars Sample sale runs one day only: Wednesday, March 14th, 11am to 6pm. It's in the Garment District at 242 West 36th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the 8th floor.
