Ping Wu and Carmen Webber at NY International Gift Fair

BPR Field Reporter Mark Y met Ping and Carmen at the Gift Fair yesterday and sends us this report. Thank you Mark!

I had the opportunity to spend several days at New York International Gift Fair this week for work. The creativity and talent on display is staggering.

I knew Ping would be exhibiting her Transformer line of scarves and such. I ran into her several times during set up and went to visit her in her booth today. She seemed surprised that I knew her. How could we forget her? She is still wearing those way cool eyeglasses.

After I left her I continued down the aisle in the Handmade Section and diagonal to her booth was Carmen Webber. ("Carmen like the opera, Webber like the grill.") She was working with an accessories designer. She's already tall and today when I took this picture she was wearing wedges and she towered over me.

All the BPRs know how creative and talented Ping and Carmen are but only those of us lucky enough to meet them in person can tell everyone that they are great sports, gracious and charming. And two beautiful smiles.

Mark Y

BPR Interview With Carmen Webber

I know, I know, we are way behind with our auf interviews. If things go well, we hope to get these to you much sooner via podcast! In the meantime, Carmen Webber was nice enough to take time out and answer a few questions for us:

BPR: Have you ever done menswear before?
CW: No, I have not done Men's wear before. I used to do reconstructed vintage blazers. But I have never done men's wear tailoring before.

BPR: Many of our readers considered this challenge to be unfair. Do you feel everyone had a level playing field for this challenge?
CW: When it comes to any competiton on a show like this, IT DOES NOT MATTER WETHER YOU THINK SOMETHING IS FAIR OR NOT. THEY ARE CHALLENGES. NO, I DO NOT FEEL THAT ANYONE HAD ANY UNFAIR ADVANTAGES OUTSIDE OF THEIR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES WITH MEN'S WEAR.

BPR:How much more time would you have needed to complete your design?
CW: I WOULD HAVE NEEDED JUST 2 TO 3 HOURS.

Click here to continue reading our interview with Carmen as she talks about the talent level on season 4 and the myriad of projects she has coming up.

BPR Love for Carmen Webber

This was the toughest challenge in Runway history and nothing in your career had prepared you for this moment. In this case you couldn't call upon your modeling experience to help with the styling. Designing an ensemble for a muscular former athlete is difficult but add the fact that he is now a morning show personality and you have a recipe for panic in the workroom. You persevered with your ambitious project but time was not your friend. We had the opportunity to see your strong aesthetic in the first episode and your ability to work as a team in the second. We know we will see more of this talented Sistah.

This post is only for positive words for Carmen Webber. If you have anything negative to say, please click here.
