Project Runway's Zac Posen on Season 12

Project Runway judge, Zac Posen, graciously participated in a conference call yesterday and answered our questions about the new season.  

Here are some highlights:

Q: I wanted to know what you think of the new opportunities on Project Runway this season, especially the Tim Gunn rescue? 

 Zac Posen: I always value mentors and educators to the highest regard. I’ve had incredible teachers and mentors throughout my career and through my schooling and often your mentor becomes a form of your collaborator and your guide.

 I wanted to get behind the scenes with every episode but that’s not my place in the show. So, I think it’s wonderful that Tim has the ability when he sees something, from the behind the scenes, which we’re not aware of when we’re judging, to be able once in the season to make that call. He’s an invaluable resource to the show and to designers. I also really enjoy the new change of being able to see the clothing up close, and being able to have that dialogue with Tim. 

For me creativity is much about process as it is about results.

Project Runway on GMA This Morning

Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen appeared on Good Morning America this morning.

A highlight:  Zac Posen reveals that his favorite challenge is the "Coney Island Challenge" where the designers create garments from the prizes that they are able to win.  Sounds like fun!

ETonline: You were great on Project Runway. Are you going to be back for season 12? 

Posen: I'm in the midst of filming! 

Etonline: How's it going? 

Posen: Really good! We started about a week and half ago, and it's been a very busy schedule. There's an incredible group of designers. They are driven -- they are passionate. It is going to be an incredible season for the fans who haven’t watched it in a few seasons. This is one to watch. 

ETonline: How do you find the time for Project Runway and designing? 

Posen: It's very challenging. Time management is an art. You switch mindsets. I try to leave my personal aesthetic at the door when I shoot Project Runway. The thing that I value more than anything else in the world is great teachers, and I've had amazing teachers in my life. My father -- who's an artist -- has throughout my career, been an incredible critic. I think it became hereditary or through listening to him. I tried to bring that to the set with the objective to be fun, and to get the most out of each individual creator. But the designers are very talented, the challenges are very challenging, the time constraints are intense. The drama is high.

Zac Posen Replaces Michael Kors for Season 11

Tim Gunn, Heidi Klum and Nina Garcia are all returning for Season 11 of Project Runway, but Michael Kors's chair will be occupied by Zac Posen.  

Kors returns to judge the season 11 finale.

Also, this season will be "the first-ever TEAMS EDITION."

Project Runway’s Season 11 returns with a twist that throws 16 eager designers into a panic when they discover they will be participating in the series’ first-ever TEAMS EDITION, premiering Thursday, January 24, at 9pm ET/PT. This season, the controversial “team challenges” are taken to a whole new level when the designers must work together for every challenge while ensuring their own garments stand out on the runway to host and judge Heidi Klum, Marie Claire’s Fashion Director Nina Garcia and featured judge, award-winning fashion designer Zac Posen. 

The game-changing new element will push designers to work collaboratively but who will be a team player and who will throw their teammates under the bus? Tim Gunn, will, once again, serve as the mentor to the designers, as they sew their way to New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Centerwhere Michael Kors will serve as the finale guest judge. 

Guest judges include Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Miranda Lambert, John Legend, Joan and Melissa Rivers, Emmy Rossum, Kristin Davis, Jordana Brewster and designers Rachel Roy, Tracy Reese, Chris Benz and Christian Siriano. 

 Season 11 premieres Thursday, January 24th at 9:00 PM.
