BPR ace field reporter Nancy T gives us this report from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
On September 7, the designs of Laura Bennett were featured in MetLife’s Snoopy in Fashion show at Fashion Week. She’s getting to be an old pro at this, since it’s the third time her styles have appeared in the Bryant Park tents in the last year. She was in good company, with fashions from big-name designers (Mizrahi, Betsey Johnson, Liz Claiborne, Heatherette) and celebrities (Kristen Chenoweth, Whoopi Goldberg). The show was noisy, flashy and packed to standing room only with over 1200 attendees from fashion, media, and entertainment.
Unlike most Fashion Week shows, this event could almost be thought of as a Project Runway challenge: Take a Peanuts comic strip theme, and create something ‘signature’ and wearable. Most of the results were great, but I think Laura would have won the challenge. Laura found the essence of two Peanuts characters – Woodstock and Pigpen – and recreated their moods, movement, and appearances, while maintaining her trademark glamorous style.
Woodstock was a canary yellow confection that bounced as Laura’s Project Runway model Camilla flirtily shook her tail feathers.
Pigpen was a sparkly reddish brown gown, form-fitting and sexy but with a cloud of brown tulle at the shoulders.
I think Laura rocked the show --but, watch the video and judge for yourself!
