Reactions To Episode 7

There was a pretty big honor on the line tonight on Project Runway for the nine remaining designers. A chance to have a dress sold at Lord&Taylor alongside some of our favorites from the past. How do you think they did? Did the judges make the right call? Post your reactions to Episode 7 here.

BPR Live Play-By-Play/Party Room: Episode 7

It's BPR party time! Join us in the comments below this post as we watch Episode 9 "Oh My Lord and Taylor" together. Will the VenBot 3000 get re-booted after last week's malfunction? Will we get to actually see Melissa's dress? Will Dmitry dance? Come on in and we'll all find out together.

To all our regulars: Tbone will be late and likely miss most of the show. But we know you can Make It Work!

While We Wait - News From Tim Gunn!

While we wait for tonight's episode, let's catch up on the latest from Tim.

First, here is a report from Tim's appearance at Parsons.  Lucky audience members received an advance copy of Tim's "Fashion Bible."

A highlight:

Do you ever worry your criticism will get you in trouble?

“When I’m really concerned about the political fallout [from my 'Who Got It Right' fashion column], I’ll ask the editors to please change the person out. But when it’s Kim Kardashian I don’t care!”

In this new interview with Zap2it, Tim reveals that he considers Kenley Collins to be a "problem child."

Q: You seem to get along with all of the contestants, but has there been one who was the problem child? And what behavior in contestants bothers you?

A: Kenley Collins of Season 5. She was belligerent. And when they are full of themselves and sassy, when I feel, "What is this person doing here?" and it is all about attitude.

Tonight On BPR

Yep, that's about the reaction we had after last week's Ven debacle. Hopefully all of that ugliness is behind us as the designers move forward into what appears to be a pretty interesting challenge in Episode 7 "Oh My Lord and Taylor". Lifetime has tapped one designer from each of the first nine seasons of Project Runway to create a capsule collection that will be available online tomorrow at Lord and Taylor. It's a chance at "immortality" as the Lifetime hype machine has called it. Team BPR will be on hand to make your viewing more fun:

  • Tbone (who may be late), suzq and the BPR crew of crazies will be hosting our weekly party room beginning at 8:45 p.m. All are welcome as we snark our way through the new episode together.
  • After the show share your thoughts in our reactions thread, posted immediately after the episode ends.
It's Thursday party day here at BPR - hope to see you!

A New Interview with Gunnar Deatherage from Sewn Studio

Gunnar certainly gained fans during last week's episode.  What a sweetheart!

Sewn Studio has posted a new interview with the designer.

A highlight:

SS:  Some other people didn’t really know how to relate to the clients as well. Do you think there is a disconnect with that in people who are in school for high fashion?

GD:  This will come off snarky, but this is the way I feel. I think you can buy an education to learn how to sew. But I don’t think that you can buy an education to learn how to design, that has to come natural. I was the only one on there (this season) that never went to school for it, I was also the youngest one. And the difference between the people that are struggling to pay to go to school and I is that, I think that you don’t have to fake it and you don’t have to refer to a textbook. You have complete creative freedom.

So that’s something I’m thankful for, that I didn’t go to school for it, because everything I learned and everything I make is another step in my journey. So some people just don’t know how to deal with people. And I feel like some people are very book smart and some people are very street smart and those true colors showed last night.

Terri Fights Back

Terri Herlihy, the beautiful young woman who was subjected to Ven Budhu's humiliating treatment on last week's "Fix My Friend" episode has gone public with her experience. Terri tells MSNBC that "...it was so much worse that what was shown":

"Herlily told us that during filming, she was "bullied" into wearing no shoes or accessories. In fact, Herlily said, she and her friend Theo Thomas (the pal who brought her on the show) had to go rummaging in "Runway's" accessories bins themselves because Budhu, who was supposed to figure out her look from head-to-toe as part of the challenge, was going to send her down the runway with no accessories. "My friend found the shoes. My friend found the belt. My friend did it all", she said. "She laid into him, but they didn't show that."

She goes on:

"If he would've gone home, that would've been a different story", Herlily said. "But because they kept him, that's why I feel like (it's) not only putting me down, but putting down every person who  isn't a size 6 or below. How many people has he hurt or affected in some way from all his comments?"

"So it looks like (the show's producers) are all for it...because it was adult bullying at its best about my weight", she added. "I can't imagine all the girls, women, teenagers watching the show who are bigger than me and what they think."

Read the whole thing. Meanwhile, Terri has launched a Facebook page called Terri's Redemption, demanding an apology from Project Runway.

UPDATE: Plus Model Magazine has stepped up in Terri's defense. She's getting a makeover and feature spread in their October issue.

Amanda's Take - Season 10, Episode 6, Fix My Friend

Project Runway Supermodel, Amanda Fields, gives us her impressions of the season 10 models.  Thanks Amanda!

Amanda Fields walks the runway for the 2013 Enzoani Collection

Hello there BPR land!

I, like most of you out there, love to hate this type of challenge. When it's right it's REALLY right and when it goes wrong it is just PAINFUL. As a viewer, all I want is for the women who are the clients to have a little bit of fantasy in their everyday life.

To be a model for a day. I wish all women (and men, for that matter) could feel beautiful in their own skin and walk the runway that is their life. I will not be harsh on the women walking the runway this time, because this is not their occupation. I will just let you know how I think they are FEELING!!

Nathan's client, Liana is up first! She seemed to not be very happy in her dress. Perhaps it was kind of what she had in mind but I didn't see the confidence that comes from wearing a dress that is EXACTLY right. She wanted something sexy but classy. This looked cheap. She looked beautiful! - love the hair and makeup!

Elena's client Jenna is next and my big critique here is that with the makeup and ensemble she actually looked older, not her age. If you look at the before she definitely looked more youthful, if not TOO juvenile. She was confident on the runway because that skirt and top were on trend, looked expensive, and fit her fantastically. Love her SASS!

Recapalooza!

Mr. Ven Budhu provided the recappers all the fodder they needed this week. Things might get a little ugly:

Maxthegirl lets loose...
Democracy Diva goes on an epic feminist rant...
Suzq has seen this show before...
Ven's performance brings back c(h)ocochanel...
David Dust is pleading with  his television...
Uncle Nick throws his pasta at Ven...
Eric3000 could barely bring himself to do it...
Gianni gazes at his foreshadow...
Linda at NPR weighs in...
Mila and Bert have at it...
Karen stayed away from the ranting...
Mongie finds a giant tool...
Brian is not tardy for the party...
Second City Style kind of defends him...
Renee thinks Ven has never watched PR...
Todd plugs along without Raul...
Tina is new to the looza...
And Toyouke keeps it all in perspective.

Tim Gunn's Takeaway

BPR Interview with Nathan Paul

Project Runway Season 10 designer, Nathan Paul talks about his experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: I may have missed this, but how were the models assigned in last night's episode?

NP: They were randomly matched.

BPR: Were you aware of Ven's unkindness toward his model, Terri?

NP: Yes, we all were and we could hear him and feel the tension.

BPR: Had you considered offering to switch models with Ven?

NP: Well, I was trying to establish a relationship with my model and I didn't want to desert her.

However, I would have been happy to work with an upsize model because I work with all sizes in my business. In fact this is something that I do.

Last year, I presented a collection of evening gowns featuring models sized 0 - 24. All women can be beautiful in evening gowns. This is something I am very passionate about.

If I had had Ven's model, I would have rocked her out.

Thank you Nathan!

It's always interesting when you take the professional models away from the Project Runway designers. Some know how to shine when faced with a real body and others, well. What did you think about the results? Post your reactions to Episode 6 here.

It is with fear and trepidation that we approach tonight's episode of Project Runway, dear fans. "Fix My Friend" is a dreaded real-world model challenge and past history with these scenarios has given us a few disturbing moments that we would rather forget. From the previews, it appears that Ven may be facing his first significant hurdle. Will he make one of the models cry? Who will be the one that gets the "hoochie mama" comment from Heidi? We'll be here again to see how it all plays out:

  • Tbone (without suzq, sadly) will be hosting our live play-by-play/party room beginning at 8:45 p.m. Join Project Runway fans from across the land as we watch Episode 6 together.

Amanda's Take - Season 10, Episode 5

Amanda Fields models for Nick Verreos

"I'm not a f****n tailor. I don't do that s**t!" - Gunnar

This right here is why you were picked (almost) last. BAD attitude. I always think being humble, positive and a hard worker will get you far in any field. What shuts the door in your face? Grumpiness, pouting, complaining and negative gossip. All of which Gunnar is capable of.

What Raul, Gunnar and all the designers need to be aware of if you can't just show up after a few years of design school and expect to have a worldwide design empire a la Michael Kors. It's neccessary to work as an assistant, pattern maker, or yes, TAILOR to therefore show your great skill to the world. Not your aesthetic, but your skill. It won't have your name on the tag or at the top of the runway - yet - but if you are willing to be a seamstress for a while it just might, in another 8 years. Until then, do the work!

Ohh, "silk chiffonzies!" Funniest thing to come out of that workroom since "Daniel Franco, where did you go??"

A "tie" on the score? It's obvious to me that the blue/black collection is far and away better than the purple train wreck.

From what I can see, the models did a fantastic job on the Marie Claire photo shoot at Go Studios. Amongst the yelling, arguing, cursing and complaining the models delivered a stunning shoot. They gave movement, grace and an edge to the looks. I am happy Project Runway is using the models from the show in the magazine as opposed to a different set of girls.

Heidi looked smashing on the runway! Finally, she gets it REALLY right.

BPR Interview with Raul Osorio

Project Runway Season 10 designer, Raul Osorio, talks about his experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR:  If you could go back, is there anything that you would do differently?

RO:  I think that I would be maybe nicer.  That would have helped me to click with people.  Instead of being so straightforward and honest - I mean that was a key issue.

It's not all about fashion, it's about personality.  When you are working on a team, you should feel that they have your back.  If they don't like you, they will not support you and I found that out.

BPR:  It was very hard to watch you and Elena in this episode.  Was it really as bad as it seemed?  Would you like to clear the air?

RO:  She is very difficult to work with.  She is a perfectionist.  When I left I was very angry.   I screamed at her and called her names, I was very angry in the moment.

I want to say, that I did call Elena just before the episode aired.  I told her that I actually like her and I was just angry.  It is easy to judge but come on.  I was put through a lot.  I was already eliminated and no one wanted to work with me.  I was very defensive and angry.

Tonight On BPR

If there is one thing we have learned during 10 seasons of Project Runway it is certain that Nina Garcia is not easy to please. She can't even bear to look at the apparently disastrous results on tonight's runway!

Episode 5 "It's My Way on the Runway" brings us our second team challenge in the last three weeks. Last week the designers had to please Michael Kors and this week they have the daunting task of making Nina happy. Good luck designers! Team BPR will be here again to watch it all unfold:

  • Tbone and suzq will be hosting our weekly live play by play and party room beginning at 8:45 p.m. ET. Join Project Runway fans from across the land as we snark our way through another new episode.

Amanda's Take - Season 10, Episode 4, "Women on the Go"

Project Runway Model, Amanda Fields, returns with her take on this episode's models. Thanks Amanda!

  Sad Fashion.

Was it just me, or did the designs this week reflect everyone's mood? With Andrea and Kooan departing (taking the coward's way out) the other designers were a bit shocked and very sad.

Hence: sad, sad little dresses on the runway.

By now, after all these fabulously glamorous seasons of Project Runway, we have come to know what the judges mean when they say "Woman on the Go" or "it looks like she's going to 'work.'" One thing Michael, Nina, Tim and usually the guest judge do not like are tacky colors and cheap looking fabric.

Heidi, on the other hand likes a dress with a little spice. Heidi's taste usually doesn't win.

BPR Interview with Buffi Jashanmal

Project Runway Season 10 designer, Buffi Jashanmal talks about her experience on the show.  Thank you Buffi!

BPR:  This is Laura Kluvo from Blogging Project Runway and I'm on the phone with Season 10 designer, Buffi Jashanmal.  Hi Buffi!

BJ:  Hey love, how're you doin'?

BPR:  Did you watch the episode last night?

BJ:  Yes I did.

BPR:  Was there anything that happened during that we didn't see, that you wish we had?

BJ:  Umm, well, the thing between me and Chris was not as bad as it looked.  I love Chris.   I mean that all did happen, but I meant "I don't want to talk about it right now."   I was just stressed out and in a rush, there was like an hour left.

It wasn't that I was mad at him.  I appreciated that he was trying to help.  It did help because he made me be "more me."

After the runway, the other designers were like, "Oh my gosh Michael Kors was so mean to you," and I was like "No, he really helped me define my market."  The fact is that I don't design for the "normal" girl.  I have to stay true to who I am.

I totally agreed with what he said.  He helped me a lot.

BPR:  Did you design the jacket that you were wearing on the runway?
