Malan at Princeton - A BPR Reader Reports

We have this report from BPR reader Christine on Malan's lecture on style on December 7th at Princeton University:

Malan Breton came to Princeton University to give a multifaceted presentation on "Optimizing Your Personal Style". The room was buzzing with excitement (with dance music, practice runway walks, and whispers of "He's late!" "He's here!!!"), and even though they were mostly in jeans and sweats, the young crowd seemed to have a serious interest in high fashion.

Malan gave a brief autobiography of his background (I still can't picture him as a skate rat or surf dude), and described how wearing a pair of self-embroidered trousers ultimately cemented his career in fashion.

He went on to describe how his collections manifest his love of "Old Hollywood", and presented many photographs that linked the styles of actresses like Joan Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, and Marlene Dietrich to the fashions of performers today. He showed many modern day dresses and then the original style that inspired them.
