News from Fern Mallis

The New York Times presents a new interview with Fern Mallis.

A highlight:

“All the good things happening for me came from being nice, and I’m having a ball,” she said, as she set out toward her home on the Upper East Side. By the windows at Saks, as if on cue, a slim young man stopped her in the rain and huggedher. A jeans designer, he gave her his card and asked her to visit. She said she would, absolutely.

“I live for you, Fern, you inspire me,” he said.

It was hard to tell if her eyes were moist from tears or the rain.

“That means so much to me,” she said.

“It means more to me,” he replied.

Project Runway Season 9 Finale Collections

Nine Project Runway Season 9 designers showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on September 9, 2011. Below you will see images of the designers in the order that their ten-piece Spring 2012 collections were shown in the new Lincoln Center venue. In an effort to remain spoiler-free, you will not see images of the designs on the main page of BPR. Spoiler alert - if you click on the image of each designer you will be redirected to images of the 10 fashions in the order that they were presented. Gretchen Jones S/S 2012

Gretchen Jones debuted her Spring/Summer 2012 collection earlier today to an enthusiastic crowd in Chelsea. Seen here with Season 8 alum Kristin Haskins Simms, Gretchen featured very wearable separates and summer dresses with an urban cowgirl feel. The models were displayed in a straight police lineup, allowing for ample focus on her self-designed jewelry. Click here for a photo slideshow from WWD.

Congratulations Gretchen!

Team BPR in NYC

Team BPR has arrived in NYC for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and we have a weekend filled with Project Runway coverage for you. The main event of course is tomorrow's Season 9 finale, where we expect to see 9 designers show after tonight's elimination. We will be live blogging from inside the tent and attempt to run a live chat room as well.

Earlier this afternoon, I ran into Gretchen Jones and her S8 friend Kristin Haskins Simms at Gretchen's S/S 2012 presentation. More from that show coming up later.

It's an exciting time for Project Runway fans and there is tremendous buzz in the air - stay tuned!

Christian Siriano at Lincoln Center

Christian Siriano, the talented and charming winner of Project Runway Season 4, showed a 40 piece Spring 2011 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on September 9, 2010. The collection featured colorful prints, most of them designed by Siriano himself, white sportswear and two show-stopping frothy gowns met with enthusiasm by the crowd. The music was composed by Christian's partner, Brad Walsh, who also designed the jewelry worn during the show. The shoes were towering with drool-worthy heel detail. Christian. Amanda Fields and Tim Gunn at the Project Runway Season Seven Finale Show

Hello BPR LAND!

You, who are sitting in front of your computers and reading this every time I write in, THANK YOU.

I am deeply thankful for all of your support and encouragement. Even if you've never left a comment, just by reading my thoughts you have enriched my life! I only hope that my little insights on the models and the fashion world can enhance yours, even for just a passing moment.

I have had a whirlwind February in New York City! I've been incredibly fortunate to not only work with extremely talented fashion designers, photographers, stylists and hair and makeup artists, but also to have walked in my fifth Project Runway Finale! As everyone who has taken a look at the photos from the collections knows, I was one of Jesse's girls!

BPR at Fashion Week

It's a bittersweet farewell to Bryant Park as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week sets up shop for the last time at the vaunted venue. Beginning this fall, the tents will be raised at Lincoln Center and it just won't seem the same, will it?
Sadly, all the talk around fashion week today centers on the tragic passing of Alexander McQueen.

Of course, Team BPR is here for tomorrow's taping of the Project Runway Season 7 finale. The steps and sidewalks are covered with ice and slush, posing a challenge for the models to simply make their way into the tents. And tomorrow madness will ensue as we will see up to 11 Season 7 designers show. BPR will be bringing you reports and photos from the scene over the next week.

We'll also be following fashion week shows from PR alumni including Christian Siriano and Irina Shabayeva. It should be an eventful week, so stay tuned!

More Christian Siriano at Fashion Week

It's all Christian Siriano, all the time here at Blogging Project Runway. As a faithful reader, you've already seen his amazing collection (click here) in stills but you can't miss watching his garments move:

BPR was there in the crowd and the reaction to the show was spectacular. Don't miss New York Magazine's take via The Fug Girls because they can ID celebs way better than Laura K. and myself (me: "Who is that next to Kelly Rowland?" Laura K.: "..."). Yes, there was a partial standing ovation, something that usually doesn't happen because fashionistas sometimes suffer from terminal ennui.

Read about the killer shoes Christian designed and debuted here.

USA Today takes us backstage right before the show. Newsday called his collection as "dramatic as ever." The Associated Press tells us that the garments were inspired by European travel and tells us what Nina Garcia thought of the collection.

What did we think? We were simply blown away. He has been called a genius and a prodigy and his clothing are evidence that those pronouncements are true.
