BPR Interview with Matthew Arthur

Project Runway Season 11 designer, Mat Arthur, talks about his experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: Did you do anything to prepare for the competition?

MA: Yes, I watched the previous seasons, sort of as research and if I could offer any advice to future contestants, I would say, have some designs in your back pocket. Know what your cocktail dress design will be, a red carpet design, know your basics. At some point there is just no time to think, so have those go-to designs in your arsenal.

BPR: Did the team format help or hurt your design process in any way?

MA: There is good and bad. It depends on your perspective. You have an instant support network, so that is good, but on the other hand, I felt like I didn't take as much risk because I didn't want to endanger my team. As an artist, I generally would take more risk.

Reactions To Episode 5

Designing looks for a celebrity have always proved to be a bit challenging for Project Runway designers. For Miranda Lambert, the task was both a red carpet look and a performance outfit. How did the new teams do? Post your reactions to Episode 5 here.

BPR Live Party: Episode 5

So I guess it's this week that we see Heidi, Tim and the button bag. Another team shake up is surely in the works for Episode 5, "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock N Roll". Instead of Donny & Marie though we get guest Miranda Lambert. What monstrosities await her wardrobe from the Project Runway designers?

The BPR party crew is on hand again to watch it all go down. Simply click on the comment link below to join the party!

Seasons Collide

BPR fave Jack Mackenroth sent along this photo with S11 designer Michelle Lesniak Franklin from last week's HP designer reunion party. Thanks Jack!

Meet Katelyn Pankoke Today in Chicago

Attention all Chicago area Project Runway fans …

Season 11 Designer Kate Pankoke will be signing sketches this Saturday, 2/16 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Lord and Taylor in Oakbrook, Illinois.

LOCATION: Lord and Taylor 180 Oakbrook Center Mall Oakbrook, IL 60521

The public is invited to meet Pankoke and receive a complimentary autographed sketch of her winning evening gown look from last week’s Heidi Klum “Surprise” challenge. Kate will also be bringing several original design pieces for display.

The Creative Director of Chicago based Elaya Vaughn Bridal has been holding her own on Project Runway Teams! Taking home the win last week, Kate earned immunity with a beautiful evening gown designed for Heidi Klum. The gown will be worn in the international TV and print ad campaign for Surprise, Klum’s newest fragrance. Once again this week, this 23 year old proves that she is a force to be reckoned with, fashioning a gorgeous tea length dress from chicken wire and flowers in the requisite Project Runway “unconventional” challenge.

Of course we would love a Field Report!

BPR Interview with Joseph Aaron Segal

Project Runway Season 11 designer, Joseph Aaron Segal, talks about his experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: Did you see a big jump in the sales in your store or your website after you were announced as a contestant on the show?

JS: Not so much at the announcement, but after the first episode aired, when they showed my portfolio, the sales were really out of control. I think it is a good idea to have an established business as you go in to the competition.

BPR at Malan Breton Fall 2013

Project Runway Season 3 designer, Malan Breton presented his Fall 2013 Collection "The Days of 54" on Feb 10th.

BPR Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara sends us this report - thanks Jen!

Jennifer Mara and Malan Breton

Malan ALWAYS puts on an incredible show, last night at Pier 59 was no different. Every season, Malan produces new levels of growth and evolution at a rapid pace which is refreshing and enjoyable to see.

RHONY Aviva Dresher
On a clean white runway, Malan showcased menswear, womenswear, evening, outerwear, and well, you name it. Malan is not holding back on us! (Not that he ever did) The collection is complete with 45 looks in a 50's Marilyn Monroe theme that delivered in every way.

Outstanding music set the tone and each model brought a new flavor to each pass. Each garment was stunning.

Audible ooo's and aahh's kept the energy high throughout the show and every look was a hit, especially the men's fur. WOW! ... Malan's personal favorite, the blue mink...and can you blame him?

Malan included the Marilyn Monroe Jewelry™ Collection by JTV, luxury lingerie company Chantelle Paris, Batiste Dry Shampoo, Brooklyn Spectacles, GOLDTOE Socks, H.H. Brown Shoe Company, Harbor Footwear Group, with his dear friend Aviva Drescher in support of the One Step Ahead Foundation.

Breakfast With TIm Gunn

Tim very graciously joined Jen and I for breakfast on Saturday.  (Tbone and The Scarlett were able to get out of NYC ahead of the big storm....)

Of course we talked about Project Runway!

Tim has a way of sharing just enough to keep us intrigued without revealing too much.

BPR:  Tim, how is your role of "producer" different from what you always did as the "mentor?"

TG:  Honestly?  It really is no different...but have you noticed that I am now credited as "co-host?"

BPR:  no....errrr....  (gasp of realization) Wait.  Does this mean that your name might be submitted to the Emmy Award Committee in the "Outstanding Host for a Reality Show" category?

TG:  We'll see...

THANKS TIM!!!!

BPR Interview with Cindy Marlatt

Project Runway Season 11 designer, Cindy Marlatt, talks about her experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR:  What advice can you offer to future contestants?

CM:  Well, I would say that going in, you should have at least ten designs in your "muscle memory" that you can pull out of a hat and just create.  In my opinion, there is not a lot of time to design and create something totally new.

Leanne Marshall Fall 2013

BPR field reporter Jennifer Mara files this report from today's Leanne Marshall Fall 2013 show:

Leanne Marshall held a noon fashion show today for her Fall 2013 collection. She has taken a break from her recent bridal work to "do things I want to do". Inspired by mushrooms, these beautiful gowns and dresses showed cohesion in their pleating and linings. Using a simple color palette, the focus was on texture and dimension through the use of fray and lace. It was really nice to see Leanne elevate her legendary petals into something just as unique. Organic fabric as always and an organic natural beauty. Thanks, Leanne!

Update:  Click here for more coverage of the show from Adrianna Grezak.

HP Designer Reunion Party

We have a bunch more photos and stories from BPR's Laura K and Jen Mara who were at the HP designer reunion party last night, but we wanted to get this one up as a teaser. Love Mondo's hair!

Eric3000 senses a base note of barbecue sauce...
Gianni notices the curious opening montage...
Uncle Nick is sponsored by Kleenex and Klonopin...
Mila thinks it must be hard being Heidi...
Josh McKinley is pretty good at this...
Karen gives Benjamin just this once...
Democracy Diva is on to Tu...
Michael Costello sees a sweet old lady...
Second City Style finds the exotic chicken...
And Toyouke looks toward the finale.

Thank you recappers, see you in seven.

Season 11 Finale Show

All Photos Getty Images

Dear BPRs,

For now, I will just give you my impressions and an overall idea of what happened at the Finale Show.  Photos to follow!  XOXO

The room filled up quickly and after everyone was seated the judges came out - Heidi, Nina, Michael and Zac.  We haven't had enough time to really miss Michael yet, and Zac is certainly doing a wonderful job, but I have a feeling that at the end of season 11 when we see Michael again, we will be very happy... As we were entering we saw Marilu Henner looking fab in a Michael Costello dress.  Also cutie pie Jake T. Austin from "Wizards of Waverly Place."  He was sweet!  Alexa Ray Joel and Kristin Chenoweth were also spotted.

We also saw Jay McCarroll, Nick Verreos, Korto Momolu, Uli Herzner, and many many of our favorite designers from previous seasons of the show.

Anyway, Heidi explained that the designers would not be introducing their collections, but that the designs would be presented "anonymously."  It was kind of sad, but I'm sure that it will be well-edited and that most viewers will not even realize that the introductions were not live.

We will be calling the collections, "Designer 1," "Designer 2," etc. until this is sorted out.

We saw eight collections of twelve looks each.  I really liked two of them a lot.  (Honestly I thought that one of them was kind of awful....)

After all of the presentations, ALL SIXTEEN of the Season 11 designers came out onto the runway and posed with Tim and Heidi.  It was great.  Also, if you look at what each designer is wearing, you might notice a couple of hints to help identify the collections...

Spoiler Alert:  Don't click if you don't want to see the collections!
