A Message From Mondo

Dear BPR, 

World AIDS Day is tomorrow, December 1st. 

Reflecting on my own journey living with HIV—starting with the idea of self-love. I created this design to honor those who we have lost to HIV, acknowledge the progress made since the outset of the epidemic and remind us that there is still work to be done in the fight against HIV/AIDS. 

I hope others will use this as source of inspiration and an opportunity to start a new conversation. Will you take a stand against HIV/AIDS with me on World AIDS Day and apply this filter to your Facebook profile picture?

Mondo Guerra at FashioNXT

Project Runway All-Star Champion, Mondo Guerra, presented his Spring/Summer 2016 collection at FashioNXT in Portland on October 10th.

Fashion Correspondent, Tamara Alazri was there and sends us this report:

Since Project Runway, Mondo Guerra has been known for combining unconventional prints and has shied away from simplicity, but has taken a different approach for his FashionXT 2015 runway show, creating a solid white collection with an 80’s vibe.

See-through skirts, bare midriffs, crop-tops and mini jackets were the focus of this collection. It felt very urban cool and the use of colored socks and sandals added flavor to the white color palette.

Project Runway All-Star Designers at FashioNXT in Portland Oct. 7-10

SethAaron Henderson, Michelle Lesniak, Mondo Guerra and Viktor Luna are showing their newest designs at FashioNXT in Portland this week.

Seth Aaron spoke with us today about the event.  

A highlight:

BPR:  Seth, how many seasons have you participated in the FashioNXT event?

SH:  This is my fifth year!

BPR:  What keeps you coming back?

SH:  First, the founder, Tito, has become a good friend.  It is his passion to make it great.  He loves it.  He gives it everything he's got.  And, in return it makes us want to do the same.

BPR:  How many looks are you showing this season?

SH:  We are keeping it down to ten.  There are three of us showing on Saturday night and you get us plus thirty models and everything else backstage and it can get kind of hectic.  Ten looks is enough.  Just like on Project Runway, you have to get your point of view across in ten looks - you have to be thoughtful and.....no fillers!

Project Runway Stars Join Mondo Guerra at ArtDenver November 14th

 

What a treat for Project Runway fans!  Michael Costello,  Justin LeBlanc and Mondo Guerra will present their latest collections on Friday, November 14.

A New Interview with Mondo Guerra

Under the Gunn mentor, Mondo Guerra, talks to the NY Daily News about the show.

A highlight:

However, he finds mentoring “a little more difficult than being a competitor, because I can’t take responsibility for my designer’s work. I can only help them and guide them . . . but also have a really blunt opinion about their work. It’s a hard position for me to play, because I don’t feel like I have an angry heart.”

Tim Gunn's New Show, "Under the Gunn," Premieres Jan. 16th

Our favorite Project Runway mentor, host and producer - Tim Gunn - is starring in a brand new reality show - "Under the Gunn."  

Nick Verreos, Mondo Guerra and Anya Ayoung-Chee will be tasked with guiding a group of up-and-coming designers through a series of challenges.

 The Emmy-award-winning Gunn will be "mentoring the mentors" in this show which will premiere on January 16, 2014 on Lifetime.

Meet Mondo!

Project Runway All Stars champ and Season 8 runner-up Mondo Guerra kicks off a nationwide tour today to celebrate the unveiling of his new "Mondo by See" line of fashion eyewear. Mondo is scheduled to make appearances at several SEE stores over the next two weeks.  Portions of the proceeds from sales of Mondo's eyewear line will go to benefit the amfAR foundation.

Mondo Guerra Hosts "Good Exchange for Change Fashion Show and Clothing Swap" Feb 7

Kick off Fashion Week by joining Project Runway All-Star winner and Denver fashion designer Mondo Guerra and three other Project Runway contestants for Goodwill’s third annual Good Exchange for Change Fashion Show & Clothing Swap. 

This evening of fashion and fundraising will be held from 5:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Exdo Event Center in Denver. 

 Guests who purchase VIP tickets will enjoy a pre-event meet and greet session with Mondo and Project Runway contestants Fallene Wells, Peach Carr and Michael Costello--plus they’ll be seated front row for the fashion show. The runway show will feature original designs using repurposed Goodwill clothing by students from Goodwill’s youth programs. 

Mondo, who got his start as a designer by repurposing items from Goodwill, will judge the student fashion show along with the three other Project Runway stars. The runway finale will feature up-cycled designs by up-and-coming designers debuting their new lines. 

 "I love being a part of the annual Goodwill Good Exchange for Change and Fashion Show,” said Project Runway All-Star winner Mondo Guerra. “It showcases the talent of these incredible young designers while supporting Goodwill's important work in our community." 

 While the fashion show is taking place, a giant clothing swap will be set-up in a separate space with the items that guests brought to swap with other event attendees. Once the fashion show wraps up, guests will be invited into the swap area-- and if they brought ten items to the event, they are welcome to take ten new items.
