Leanne Marshall, Fall 2015

Project Runway Season 5 champion, Leanne Marshall, presented her Fall 2015 collection at Lincoln Center last night and BPR Field Reporter, Shannon Moody sends us this report.  Thank you Shannon!

Leanne Marshall Debuts at Lincoln Center with SHEER Beauty

And yes, the emphasis on SHEER is fully intentional. Many looks in this 42-piece collection incorporated such delicate sheer effects, from the bodice to really all over! Leanne's work is always feminine and ethereal, but it was great seeing her transition her signature aesthetic to full on red carpet glam and even some sexier pieces. She actually presented twice during NYFW, a RTW presentation at the Affinia Hotel, and then with more upscale looks for her first time presenting at Lincoln Center, The Pavilion. And WOW, what a show, very stunning, eye-catching, out of this world gowns, dresses, and even some separates.

The vibe for this collection was very light and airy, lovely pieces with a gorgeous fit and flowing trains. The color palette ranged from traditional staple colors, such as black and white, to more vibrant pops of color, such as crimson red and burnt orange. Leanne also created some magnificent prints with dye treatments, all thanks to Rit Dyes.

Her various looks were segmented into separate categories -- Le Voyage (black & forest green staple, signature Leanne pieces), La Chasse de L'amour (many of the Rit hand-painted looks), La Obsession (all about the regal ruby red looks), & La Demence (lots of luxurious navy blue dresses).

My first fashion show ever in NYC was for Leanne Marshall, and I've seen her present many times since then. But I am immensely proud of her continued breathtaking work and for all of her success. I am very happy she was able to present at Lincoln Center and that for her debut showing, I was able to witness it firsthand. These looks were certainly memorable for such a momentous occasion. I am positive we will see some of them very soon on red carpets and the like!

CONGRATS & GREAT WORK LEANNE!!

Malan Breton - Fall 2015 Collection, "Stars"

Malan Breton presented his Fall, 2015 collection, "Stars" this morning at Lincoln Center.  Breton showcased 53 looks.  BPR Field Reporter, Jennifer Mara sends us this report.
Thanks Jen!

Shoe designer Caterina Belluardo, Malan Breton and Jennifer Mara

Malan Breton truly woke up my spirit, among many others, this morning, with an early 9 am show held in The Pavilion at Lincoln Center. The Malan Breton Showcase of his Fall/Winter 2015 Men's and Women's Collection was the most elevated and exquisitely put together show of the week.

All Photos - Jennifer Mara
Malan always delivers, his craftsmanship is flawless and every garment is stitched to perfection. From head to toe, each model looked consciously well thought out and put together. Malan's decisions in style are incredibly innovative, including intelligent twists on traditional styles for women AND men. He's all about breaking the rules just a little bit, showcasing oversized necklaces using leather, a full on three piece cashmere suit, ranging from fantasy to reality. Plus, Sir. Malan Breton knows how to put on a show!

Season Four All-Stars Champion, Dmitry Sholokhov, talks to BPR about the finale and his his plans for the future.

A highlight:

BPR:  Did you see the marijuana leaf in your fall design?

DS: Not at all!  I did not see it until Zanna pointed it out.  I saw it as sort of a flower.

BPR:  Do you see it now?

DS:  Yes, but if you look at the actual leaf, it is different.

BPR:  Now that you are a two-time winner - have you designed anything for Alyssa,  Heidi, or Nina to wear?

DS:  I designed a dress for Alyssa and she will be wearing it at the Reunion.

Thank you Dmitry!

Viktor Luna for F/W 2015: The Apocalypse

Shannon and Viktor
Viktor Luna presented his F/W 2015 collection on February 11, 2015 at the Intercontinental Hotel Times Square, Gotham Ballroom,  BPR Field Reporter, Shannon Marie Moody was there and sends us this report - thank you Shannon!

His overall concept for the collection was "The Apocalypse", think Guerrilla Warfare. Or in Viktor's case, "Gorilla Warfare", as several of his pieces incorporated the face of a gorilla! The underlying inspiration for his 12-piece collection was envisioning how women would dress for the end of the world, facing an apocalypse. He said his collection also was representative of the 4 major elements -- earth, water, fire, and air.

And Viktor's "Apocalyptic Woman" in this case dresses with strength, very tough, armor-like.

Viktor presented a great deal of detailed and structured outerwear. Many pieces encompassed several gold button and zipper detailings. The color palette for his apocalyptic vision was dark -- blacks, charred browns, deep burgundies, and navy blues. What a show!

It was also nice that several PR alums made their way to Viktor's show to show support --
  • Sean Kelly
  • Alexander Knox
  • Benjamin Mach
  • Helen Castillo
  • Christopher Palu
  • Jesus Estrada

BPR Interview with Sonjia Williams

Project Runway All-Star Finalist, Sonjia Williams talks about her experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: When you walked on to the set and saw the other designers, who did you believe would be your biggest competition?

SW: I automatically went to Fabio and Dmitry. They are from my season, I know them and I know what they are capable of. I mean of course the other designers are equally as talented, but I am more familiar with the work of Fabio and Dmitry.

BPR: Which was your favorite challenge?

SW: London. Definitely. I love outerwear, so I really enjoyed that challenge.

Click here for the full interview.

Click here to visit Sonjia's website.

Thank you Sonjia!

BPR Interview with Dmitry Sholokhov

Project Runway All-Star finalist, Dmitry Sholokhov, talks about his experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR: What can we look forward to in the finale?

DS: Oh the finale will be amazingly interesting and insanely crazy because we only had four days to create an eight-piece collection and the collection had to incorporate the four seasons. Basically we had five hours per piece.

BPR: What are you working on now?

DS: Well, I started teaching at Parsons. I graduated from Parsons and now I am teaching seniors. I have 16 students so I am working with 16 collections.

Thank you!

BPR Interview with Helen Castillo

Project Runway All-Star Finalist, Helen Castillo, talks to BPR about her experience on the show.

A highlight:

BPR:  How is the all-star experience different from the regular season for you?

HC:  Honestly, it wasn't really any different.  I was lucky to go into the seasons practically back to back and I didn't have time to examine what happened or to prepare for like, "what will I do if we have this kind of challenge or that kind of challenge?"  I just knew that I didn't want to come across as a mean girl!

Alexandria von Bromssen Presents LoveSick Fashion Show Feb 14 in SF

"LoveSick" also features Season 13 designer, Emily Payne!

Love goes away, but the sickness lingers. We'll always be Lovesick.

Valentine's Day draws near, and the burden of expectation weighs heavy on our brows. The "correct" V-day ritual has been ingrained into our minds, accepted as the status quo. In order to "prove" our love, we must follow the checklist: flowers, chocolate, etc. Intimacy, commodified.

We all recognize this cliche for the lie that it is, but we've also internalized it- and if we don't obey, there are consequences. Nobody wants to be the sitting at home, alone.

But do not despair. You don't have to accept this fate. Lovesick is back- and we've got the cure. We have inherited the future- and now we get to decide which traditions to keep, or throw away and replace with our own. We don't need Valentine's Day. Let's all get Lovesick instead.

Join us at 7 pm in the Empire Room in San Francisco for a celebration of Love & Fashion. A Trunk Show and Kissing/Photo Booth will take place at the top of the evening, followed by the Runway Fashion Show main event. Designers Alexandria Von Bromssen, Emily Payne, Miranda Caroligne, and more will be showcasing new collections. Music by ROOZ, ALESSANDRO, Meikee Magnetic with ChrisCheezy, and Irene Hernandez-Feiks. The Empire Room will be serving handmade crafted cocktails from their Mixology bar all night.

Recapalooza!

The recappers head for the dog pound:

Sam is simply rad, that is all...
Gianni is not stuck in 2012...
Shannon is in be-twizzle...
Anthony Ryan doesn't do dogs...
Seth Aaron says this isn't like the real world...
Second City Style wants that baby to come out...
And Toyuke lets the dogs out.

Thank you recappers - next week is the finale!

Season 14 Now Casting!

The biggest news to come out of PRAS Episode 9 was the welcome sight of Tim and Heidi announcing that Season 14 was now casting! We had worried just a little bit that we might see a longer hiatus for PR because of so much radio silence about it's future, but not to worry yet.

We will likely see Season 14 film in June and July with a late July premiere. But for now designers, get your contact info in!

Reactions To Episode 9

The All Star designers were tasked with an avant-garde challenge this week that allowed for their creativity to shine. What did you think if the episode and results? Post your reactions to Episode 9 here.

BPR Party: PRAS Episode 9

It's adventure on the high seas, or at least the aquarium, tonight on Project Runway All Stars as Helen takes a dip into the tank to risk life and limb for fashion. Afterwards, she and Justin get down and dirty on the Parsons floor in yet another thrilling tale of danger, desire and design. At least that's our take from the previews.

In other news, the BPR party crew will be watching tonight's episode "Sketching with the Sharks" together. Plenty more snark inside, I'm sure. Click the comment tab and come on in.
