Jerry Tam Wins!

Jerry Tam's design team at Form was among the winners Tuesday night at the Supima Cotton design contest!

Guess who else was there.

Season Four Designers Jack Mackenroth, Victorya Hong and Kevin Christiana. Here is a brief recap from Jack:

Last night Kevin and Victorya and I attended the Supima cotton fashion show at Gotham hall. Supima vendors supplied fabric and Kevin and a panel picked 25 designers in an open call. The designers had to make gowns from the fabric they were given. They had 2 weeks to finish the dresses(a lifetime by PR standards). Some were great and some were not but we had lots of fun. Jerry from the upcoming season was there and won an award for his designs in jersey. Lisa (Christians model from our season) also modeled at the show.

Reactions to the Season 5 Premiere

A new season , a new time and a new cast. We barely have gotten to know these designers and one is already gone! Post your reactions to Episode 1 here.

Episode 1 Party!

Project Runway returns tonight for its (most likely) final run on Bravo. Join us in the BPR party room as we raise a toast and welcome Episode 1 of Season 5, "Let's Start at the Beginning". It's something of a Sound of Music theme tonight, so don your finest liederhosen and fill your stein with your beverage of choice.

For the benefit of our new readers, this post is for your live episode chat in our comments. Join PR fans from across the country and share your best sassy snark and Runway smack. It's a Wednesday night tradition on BPR, and everyone is welcome. Come on in, the party has started!

BPR Live Play-By-Play: Season 5 Premiere!

Tbone has sauntered his way back into the booth, ready to pound away at the keyboard to provide live play-by-play coverage of tonight's big Season 5 premiere, "Let's Start at the Beginning".

This post is for all readers without Bravo, travelers holed up in hotel rooms, west coasters who can't wait to watch what happens and of course the ever-growing throng of Tbone groupies who hang on his every word. Comments under this thread are for Tbone's use only - please read along to find out what's happening. All others looking to chat live on tonight's premiere report to the party room above!

From The Mailbox

I hope that everyone is watching the Season Four Marathon today! The DVD for Season Four will be available in November. Starting next week, BPR will begin a new feature called "Tough Trivia Tuesday." The first topic will be "Season Four - Food and Drink."

Meanwhile, the mailbox is stuffed to overflowing with local news items from the new designer's hometown papers! I kind of love that.

But first let's look at Heidi Klum on Conan O'Brien last night. Click here for the video.

This is a Nikolaki design!

Poll Results - Season 5 Final 4

We asked you to vote to determine who you thought would be the Finale 4 of Project Runway Season 5. You weighed in to tell us and the results are in. You voted for Daniel Feld, Leanne Marshall, Suede and Wesley Nault. Click here to see all of the votes. We'll 'watch what happens' to see if you were right!

A Note From Suede

Photo from Suede's MySpace

Season 5 designer Suede sends along this in anticipation for tonight's premiere:

What an INCREDIBLE experience I have had.. I would love for you send my love to all the fans of Project Runway and tell them all I will see them on the runway.

All my love and thanks again for your support.

xoxoxo
-SUEDE

Also, thanks to reader Trevor for tracking down the MySpace pages for Jerell Scott and Terri Stevens. We've updated our cast post with the new info.

Good luck to all the designers. We're getting closer and closer to show time!

TGIW!

Are you ready? Is anyone ready? We've barely had time to figure out who's who but here we go. Season 5 of Project Runway premieres tonight! Team BPR has the champagne on ice as we prepare to celebrate the return of Tim, Heidi, MK, Nina and 16 new designers. Here's the plan:
  • Tbone will once again be hosting live play-by-play coverage of Episode 1, "Let's Start at the Beginning" for everyone without access to Bravo. Don't forget the new start time: 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
  • Everyone is invited to join us in the virtual party room beginning at 8:00 p.m. Come snark along with your BPR friends. And for those of you watching Shear Genius, the party will continue over at Blogging Shear Genius at 10:00 p.m.
  • Having your own viewing party? Why not enter the Bravo B-Hive contest. You could win a $1000 shopping spree with Bluefly and a visit from a Project Runway VIP at your finale viewing party.
  • After the show, share your thoughts to the Season 5 premiere in our reactions thread.
  • Also returning this season on BPR: Katy's Take, Amanda's Take and Ask the Fashion Professor!

Some items of interest to help pass the day away:
  • Our favorite poobah of prognostication, Alan Gratz is once again making his fearless weekly predictions on who is in and who is auf. Check out his season opening post this morning as he handicaps the entire field.
  • Andy Cohen will be hosting his campy, fun "Watch What Happens:After the Sew" online show featuring Austin Scarlett and the aufed designer but alas, you must be an AMEX cardholder!
  • In case you missed it, Tim Gunn says "...I can only imagine how the blogs are going to explode over some of the challenge winners."
  • We know we are at the brink of Season 5 here but we couldn't help notice this piece from New York Magazine talking about Heidi and Nina's difference of opinion on the impending move to LA for S6. Also included is a video Heidi's appearance on the Today Show.
  • And we leave with you a preview of tonight's opener from our old friend Robin Ghivan at the Washington Post. No, she doesn't reveal the winner again but there may be more detail in her review than you care to know, so click at your own risk!

Is that enough? Happy Wednesday everyone!

Last-Minute Reminders....

There is still time to vote in our "Best Season" Poll. It closes tomorrow.

There will be a "first challenge preview" tonight on Flipping Out.

Heidi Klum will be on Conan O'Brien tonight. She will possibly be wearing a dress by a Season Two Designer.... Stay tuned....

Fafarazzi is a fantasy game for Reality Show lovers. It's not just about who wins or loses, though. You can earn points if your designer fights or cries!

Our own Samarai Gratz has selected Daniel, Jerry and Korto for his team and he promises to provide his predictions each week. Click here to sign up and join the fun!

Finally, our friends at ProjectRunway.com have let us know that the Season Four DVD will not be available until November!

Videos! And a Quickie Poll - Season 5 Final 4

Videos! Polls! Project Runway! What could be better? Why, only videos COMBINED with polls COMBINED with Project Runway!

It's time for our completely unscientific means for determining who will make it to the tents. First, you can watch a brief video on each designer by clicking on their picture above (tricky, no?) just to get to know them better. (The name of the designer can be found in the mouseover.) You can also combine your research with our exhaustive efforts to bring you more information found here. Or, you can just vote based upon your intuition. It's just a little over 9 weeks until Bryant Park, tell us:

Disclaimer: We don't know if it is going to be a final 3, 4 or 5. Really.

ETA: To help with your predictions, check out Tim's take on each designer today at People.com

We'll close the poll in 24 hours (2 p.m. Eastern) - VOTE NOW!

Season 5: The First 3 Episodes

Thanks to reader Jennifer for noticing that TV Guide has posted the first little tidbits regarding the challenges for episodes 1-3:

Episode 1: The runaway runway hit opens its fifth season with 16 fresh designers on pins and needles: They try to make it work by creating clothes from unusual sources.

Episode 2: The designers participate in a green-themed challenge.

Episode 3: The clothiers create designs for a client's special day.

Hmmm. Unusual sources, a green-themed challenge and a client's special day. Haven't we seen these before? Let the speculation begin!

Season 5 Chaos!

The chatter about Bravo's seeming lack of promotional push for Season 5 of Project Runway has reached a fever pitch. Mo Ryan buys into TLo's money theory, Andy Denhart thinks the show's star may be fading, PRWeek notes the lack of subway and bus station posters, and Gawker flat out wonders if Bravo is trying to kill Runway before its move to Lifetime.

Bottom line, we're all looking for material to work with less than a week from the premiere and Bravo has not given us much to go by. Even the teeniest scrap will do, thank you. Is this really a cold, calculated move?

Bravo insists it's not the case. A Bravo spokesperson tells BPR "that the delay in releasing cast bios and specifics about Season 5 is due to the late production schedule and the need to prevent any spoilers". Further, Bravo confirms that the cast bios will be released on Monday and, for the first time ever, episode specifics and guest judges for the entire season will be revealed prior to the premiere next Wednesday.

So Monday it is. As always, stay tuned!

TGIW

We are just ONE WEEK away from the most underhyped season of Project Runway ever. Soon the sewing machines will be humming away, Tim will be prowling about the workroom, Nina and MK will get all fidgety in their chairs, Heidi will be kissing designers goodbye and all will be right in the world again.

In the meantime, we'll simply watch the Brother clock on the wall and wait and wait and wait...For your preseason amusement, we point to you to longtime friend and BPR fave Rich at FourFour who has a hilarious montage of the single most overused reality show phrase. Can you guess what it is?

And party room fans are once again invited to join us tonight at Blogging Shear Genius as we continue to have fun with the Season 2 stylists. Happy Wednesday!

Update: Mo Ryan is thinking the same thing...

Harvey Milks The Runway Cow

Photo From WireImage
Harvey Weinstein needs to learn how to recycle.

The Village Voice just happened to stumble upon some of the remnants from his wastepaper bin and oh my, what a find that was:

Harvey may be in need of some computer skills. Someone has printed out his e-mails, like one involving details of the new Project Runway, which, after its fifth season on Bravo (starting July 16), Harvey is moving to Lifetime for season six, which will partly be filmed in California. The wags have it that Harvey's ego was offended that Bravo was getting so much credit for the success of the show, so he moved it to the more cautious, less gay Lifetime out of spite.

Longtime fans predict doom. But the e-mails suggest that whether or not Runway wanes, Harvey is a hands-on details guy: He seemed to peruse a series of e-mails regarding the show's makeup and "hair category.” A crucial one was sent May 26 to several people at L'Oreal by Lori Sale, a former Weinstein Company employee now at the Paradigm agency...

And the pricetag to have the honored banner atop the Project Runway hair and makeup room? How does $8 million sound! With that kind of lucre, don't you think the ante could upped just a smidgen for the Project Runway winner?

Much more where this came from, so read the whole thing. And check out Gawker's take on the trashgate affair as well.

TGIW

Two weeks and counting! It seems a little hard to believe, given the radio silence from the Bravo hype machine, that Season 5 is about to premiere. Where are the new designer bios? How about a teeny, tiny sneak peek? Nothing.

Except maybe this guy from my neck of the woods. Hmmmm.

Meanwhile, we hope you can join us tonight for another live viewing party at Blogging Shear Genius. You don't even have to watch Shear Genius in order to have fun in the party room. Stop in and say hello tonight beginning at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
Happy Wednesday!

Project Runway Shines Light on L.A. Designers

Reports that Season Six will film partly in Los Angeles have brought mixed reactions. Devoted fans want nothing to change about their beloved show. Forward-thinkers are eager to see something fresh and new.

The truth is that there has always been a strong Los Angeles presence on Project Runway. Auditions are held there every season and there has been at least one Los Angeles designer in the finale of every season so far.

Variety has an interesting article about the personality of the Los Angeles fashion designer and how he or she might be perfectly suited for the reality show format.
