The Season 5 finale marks a bittersweet time for Bravo as well as they bid farewell to their franchise program. Team BPR will be here to help take it all in. Here's the plan:
  • The BPR party room will be open at 8:00 p.m. ET for the finale blowout. One last chance to snark along with your friends across BPR land. Stop in and say hello before the place gets remodeled!
  • Tbone will of course have live play by play beginning at 9:00 p.m. for everyone in the tragic position of being without Bravo. Learn who the winner is as she is announced!
  • Our reactions post goes up promptly at 10:00 p.m. Let us know what you think about the winner of Season 5.

With Season 6 in legal limbo, who knows when we'll get the chance to do this again. Let's go out with a bang, shall we?

Results In - You Were the Judge Episode 13

This week's results are interesting. You felt that Jerell Scott should have been out based upon the challenge of Episode 13. Tomorrow we will have our final poll of Season 5. Scroll up to vote in two more polls prior to tonight's finale episode.

Top 5 Looks: 3rd place

This is how you do seatbelts. In "Fashion That Drives You", the ten remaining designers faced their second alternative materials challenge of the competition as they were tasked with creating a garment out of Saturn automotive parts. Six of the ten incorporated seat belts in their designs, but Korto Momolu was the only one to use the textile exclusively. The result was nothing short of stunning.

Korto created a gorgeous coat by weaving the seatbelts in a manner that alternated the grains and allowed lighting to give it a sleek, checkerbaord pattern. Guest judge Rachel Zoe proclaimed that she was ready to walk out of Parsons with it on. In what was easily the best collective design work of any episode in Season5, Korto's coat stood out. It has also carries the distinction of being the only design I've personally tried on!

Korto had already made her mark earlier in the competition with a win in the Olympic challenge. This design solidified her standing as a front runner and helped pave her path to the finale. Tomorrow we learn her fate but regardless the outcome, she has a permanent spot on the BPR Top 5. Congratulations Korto!

Top 5 Looks: 4th Place

After the first two episodes of Season 5, we had little indication as to who had the best design chops, let alone who was who. Emily, Jennifer and Leanne were indistinguishable from one another. But that would all change in "Bright Lights, Big City" when the designers had their first chance to shine with complete creative freedom and traditional materials.

Leanne Marshall was dropped off at Columbus Circle with a digital camera and the charge to find an image to use as the inspiration for her design. Similar to our Season 2 Top 5 champion Andrae Gonzalo, she chose to look down. Finding a beautiful tree grate, Leanne was able to create a look that defined the taste and sensibility that we would see time and time again from her as the competition moved forward.

Leanne used horizontal pleats in her skirt that mimicked the design of the tree grate and paired it with a simple, sleeveless blouse. Her pleating technique would become a signature design element that set her apart from the pack. When the lovely Karalyn walked this down the runway, we swooned. It was arguably the first "wow" outfit of the competition. And in yet another questionable judging decision, this design did not garner Leanne a win. It lives on though as a Top 5 Look from Season 5. Congratulations Leanne!

Top 5 Looks: 5th Place

Jerell Scott didn't have a choice. Chosen by Brooke Shields as a team leader in "Welcome to The Jungle", his name came out of the hat last when it came time to choose partners. And like the last kid on the playground, Stella Zotis stood there feeling a little left out. Jerell was unfazed, assuring Stella that they would make it work. And did they ever.

What appeared at first blush to be a disastrous pairing ended up being quite the opposite. As other teams in the workroom self-destructed, Jerell and Stella were able to collaborate and compromise to produce a beautiful garment. Jerell wisely assigned Stella to work to her strength, assigning her to create a wide mustard "leathuh" waistband. Jerell paired a gorgeous charcoal A-line skirt with a taupe top that met the challenge requirements perfectly.

This challenge was a real turning point for the two as both had done little to impress viewers up to this point. Jerell would use the momentun from his success to find his way to Bryant Park and Stella would soon go on to be a fan favorite. Many felt they were robbed of a win on this challenge but you gave them a bit of redemption in the Top 5 poll. Congratulations Jerell and Stella!

BPR Love for Jerell Scott

Last week we congratulated you as the designer with the most wins in Season 5. You not only won with your botanically inspired gown in the 'Nature Calls' episode, but you also fashioned a professional look in the 'Transformation' challenge and an avant garde creation in 'What's Your Sign.' Your collaborations with Jennifer Diederich and Stella Zotis produced successful garments while you demonstrated that you are not only a creative force but a true team player. You also wore some of the most memorable looks (including some fanciful hats) as you were grilled on the runway that made us smile while we found you adorable and daring. And your routines with fruit and the Tim bobblehead? Precious!

This week it is especially difficult to keep this post only positive. We're not going to say that you were robbed given that you won in what should have been the final challenge. We won't mention that someone else should have been out last week or that the bottom two designers should have vied for the coveted final position. Instead we're going to focus on the fact that you did indeed get a chance to show at Bryant Park. You can click here to see his collection. This post is only for positive words for Jerell Scott or his work. If you have anything negative to say about him or another designer, please click here.

Send your questions to Jerell to Team BPR by clicking here; we will be interviewing for our BPR Podcast early on Friday.

BPR Live Play-by-Play: Episode 13

The Season 5 finale kicks off this evening and Tbone is back again for live play--by-play coverage. If you are without Bravo access or just can't wait to find out what happens, we're here for you. We'll follow Tim around as he visits the final 4 and find out who gets the auf before Bryant Park.

Comments under this thread are for you to read and Tbone to post. If you have something to say, take it to the party room above!

Amanda's Take

Is it just me, or does the winner of Project Runway just not seem as important during the most important election of our time? And of course, the night of the big finale is the same night as the final Presidential Debate. Intelligent programming situation there...

Every model left is qualified to win. Whichever designer takes the title will have a great model to show off their clothes in Elle. As you have read in my previous takes, I have explained that the great runway models know how to sell the clothes, adding the right attitude to go with the look they are wearing. I still miss Karalyn being on the show. She was fantastic at that!

Click here to continue reading Amada's Take. She's asking for reader questions before her finale take next week!

The Waiting Room

Plenty of interesting news to peruse this week:

Alan Gratz thought he had the week off from his usual Swami duties, but no! He weighs in with his weekly predictions on who might be in and who might be auf.

This is cool. BPR reader Maggie sent us this link from the National Geographic that features several current and past PR designers trying to figure out what Wilma the Neandethal would wear. That's Blayne Walsh's rendition up above.

Speaking of Blayne, he's back at his barista stand in west Seattle. This article also claims that "Bloggers have attacked the young designer's taste and personality..." Hey, we love Blayne!

The LA Times has an excellent update on the status of Season 6 as they talk to Heidi, Tim, Bravo and the Magical Elves. They mention a possible "late summer" debut and we also learn that Nina and MK will not participate in every episode. It's a must read.

Accompanying the LA Times feature is this nifty "Where are They Now" update.

Executive Producer Rich Bye waxes nostalgic over the loss of his baby.

Another Hollywood star has been outed as a guest judge for Season 6.

In case you missed it, the "Top 5 Looks From Season 5" poll is in full swing. We received a nice note from our old friend and poll originator Madpawn at TWoP who is starting a similar thread over there. We'll combine the results just like the old days. Get your votes in now!

TGIW

Ready or not, here it comes! The Season 5 finale kicks off tonight with the designers being sent home with one more challenge. We'll get to peek at the finale collections with the added bonus of watching Tim Gunn drive! It's always one of our favorite episodes and we'll have the usual suspects in place to cover it all:
  • The BPR party room opens at its usual time, 8:00 p.m. ET. The only thing more fun than a new episode of PR is dishing about it with your fellow fanatics!
  • Since it appears there will be an elimination, Tbone will provide live play-by-play coverage beginning at 9:00 p.m. If you have no Bravo access or want to see the results before the show airs in your time zone, this is the place to be!
  • After the show, share your opinions with us in our weekly Recactions thread.
  • And those of you following Top Design should know that the party doesn't end! Join us over at Blogging Top Design for even more fun.

Previews of The Finale, Part 1

Top 5 Looks From Season 5

As we begin the countdown to the Season 5 finale, it's time once again to roll out our popular "Top 5 Looks Poll". Now that everyone has had a chance to see all of the designs and challenges this season, which 5 are your favorites?

Probably the easiest way to look at all of the garments is to go to
Bravo's Rate The Runway page where you can sort by episode. To keep everyone consistent, list your five favorites in the comments by number, designer(s) name(s) and challenge like this:

1 - Daniel Feld "Let's Start From The Beginning" challenge
2 - Leanne Marshall "Bright Lights, Big City" challenge
3 - Joe Faris "Good Queen Fun" challenge
4 - Terri Stevens "Fashion That Drives You" challenge
5 - Harvey Weinstein "Let's All Just Get Along" challenge (Well, that last one wouldn't count, but you get the idea...)

We'll tally the results and reveal your Top 5 picks in a special countdown beginning next week. It's your chance to celebrate the uncelebrated and right some judging wrongs. Who from Season 5 will join Andrae Gonzalo, Robert Best, and Christian Siriano as a Top 5 Looks champion?

Final Challenge Speculation

Everyone was shocked last week when the judges wimped out (helped along no doubt by the meddling of producers) and failed to send someone packing. Incredibly, Jerell Scott was named the winner yet is still forced to jump through another hoop to make the Final 3. As far as the competition is concerned, his winning design from Nature Calls was no better than Kenley's "Bride of Barney" creation.

So the table is set for one final challenge, one last trick up the Magical Elves sleeve. Heidi hinted at this possibility earlier, but what will be it be? Many who have perused the photos of the finale collections think they know. Let's take a closer look.

For the benefit of the purists, we'll move the specifics to page 2. So if you want to be surprised, stop right here! We'll be looking at some of the finale photos and you need to turn away. If you want to keep going and help us try to guess the outcome this week, then click here!

More From Kenley

It's all Kenley, all the time!

Congratulations, Jerell

You are the only designer of Season 5 of Project Runway that can boast 3 wins. You took your inspiration from a cluster of roses but you avoided a literal and perhaps saccharine interpretation; instead you fashioned layers as a nod to the blossoms. You paired a sophisticated palette with luxe fabrications and created a silhouette that Nina Garcia said was youthful while Michael Kors mentioned that the gown intrigued him. The dress looked regal and expensive and expressed your point-of-view. Compliments to Jerell!

This post is only for postive words for Jerell Scott or his fashions. If you have anything else to say about another designer or this challenge, please click here.

The Waiting Room

I know, I know - it's a long day. Unfortunately, the news is a bit thin but we've plucked a few items of interest to amuse you with:

It isn't a proper Wedensday until the Swami has spoken. And look here, he has plenty to say! Mr. Gratz cries conspiracy over last week's result in addition to his fearless prediction for the final 3. You must go there now.

WWD subscribers will want to check out this new article about Jeffrey Sebelia and his new line "Good Vig".

You don't need a subscription to see WWD's update on Project Courtroom. Production on S6 continues, but questions remain for some of the potential advertisers on Lifetime.

TV Watch wonders if it was the product placement deals on Bravo that did them in...

It looks like Tim Gunn will be back in New York on October 19 for a benefit event, after production on S6 is completed.

We'll see you tonight!
